FL2, software updating

FL2, software updating.

This morning it was -4’ when I started the motor. I had no connection to the phone no sound from the radio and when I switched into reverse the reversing sensors started bleeping.
I switch off, removed the key and then started again from scratch.
As I’m in for the heater recall I gave the dealer a call about this and to ask if this was a software thing and would an upgrade solve it. I was told they would have a look but if the update was for the phone I may get charged for the service. It seams to me that what I did to solve the problem was the same as a computer reboot. Thus a possible software problem. Also said that sometimes when I have just started the motor the revs go up and down at idle.
Is there a way to tell if you do get an update of the system Question

Firmware versions will only be easily accessed using the approved computer/software connection used for service and updates. Possibly, they may be accessible via the navigation screen given the correct access codes. Question And there are many systems that have firmware - like ECU/accessories/audio/navigation/bluetooth etc.
I had a 'crash' of the audio/navigation system and mentioned this to the dealer. They upgraded that firmware (among others) and it's been fine since (touch wood). Sounds like yours may have crashed on booting.
I would be most vocal if they tried to charge for firmware updates of any type. Personally, I believe that if there are updates available it is an admission that the previous version was lacking something. Also, it's in everyone's interest to have the latest firmware versions that are available for your hardware, unless of course the dealer is hoping to gain revenue from issues caused by firmware glitches. Whistle
To answer your question (finally Thud ) I think you can only ask the dealership to ensure all the latest versions are installed, stating that you are more likely to be a happy customer if that were the case. Banging Head

Scotland 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Zermatt Silver

Hi, for your info, after getting the preheater disconnected back in October, when the temp got really low, about -4 and below, my cd and phone stopped working until the car warmed up, normally after about 20 mins, when i put the car in for the new heater a couple of weeks ago, i told the dealer about this, they had a think about it and decided it was a build up of condensation due to the preheater being disconnected, however at the same time they updated the bluetooth software FOC whatever they did I have not had the problem since.........

don't know if this helps in anyway

mike

still smiling.........

Thanks for getting back. If the radio and phone didint restart after i removed and replaced the key i would agree its a possiblity. But what i did i class as a reboot of the system, thus software. But i may be wrong.

Surpriced chicken George did give some input to this, as he always has something to say Whistle

Well got the recall done today in about one hour. Very Happy
The problems with everything else apart from the reversing sensor seams to be down to a fault in the Alarm backup system or something, Confused It's were all the audio comes through Confused This is now on order for being replaced. It also has something to do with the lights staying on when it’s sunny. It’s a known LR Fault.
Regarding the sensors, one of the rear revering sensors were faulty and replaced. 08 FL2 SE TD4 manual,Santorini Black, Factory fitted Black Tinted Glass, Anti-Tesco Trolly Side Protection, bebe confort axiss carseats & Cargo barrier to stop twin's buggy & junk coming through.
