Hi,

I'm setting off to Seahouses for a weeks rest in the tin tent, and was wondering if anyone had any local tips or pointers of what to see or do?
We have a few walks planned, but have never been to the area before.

Avoid seahouses, head to Walkworth area in my opinion.


Walkworth to Alnmouth stretch of beach is fantastic apart from the fact that after a long walk you can see the pubs but cant cross the river to reach them.

Cragside house is interesting if you like electricity


We have stayed in Seahouses (seafield static caravan site ) twice and I dislike the place, its just too far away from anything else, apart from Bamburgh castle. and why stay in seaside static with zero view of the wonderful beaches? all the pain with no gain

take a trip to Farne island if you like bird poo never done it supposed to be a great trip

Northumbria is a fantastic place,lovely beaches that amaze just dont stay in the dodgy fish and chippy/slot machiny land of seahouses.

Alnwick train station is now an amazing used book shop, with a nice cafe

Alnwick castle and garden expensive but very nice, book the treehouse restaurant well in advance if you want to eat there.

Rowing boats on the river in Walkworth, then a look round Walkworth castle

Fond memories of our dog stealing golf balls from the greens of Walkworth links, angry golfers are funny

holy island worth a look

Definitely do the farne island trips. Use serenity trips they are the best.

Look up crasher and dunstanburgh castle and all the other castle. Go to alnmouth and holy island but check tides. Workers nice and loads of walks there with fords. Also check out real and ford next to chillingham caslte.

Depends what your into. Almwick and barter books are nice areas also.

Spent a week on Holy Island in May, lovely and peaceful especially when the tides out and tourists have gone home. They’d all left by 2pm one day and it was so quite although the two pubs shut early through lack of trade! You must check tide times though.
Farne Island boat trip was good but may be wise to wait a good weather day, unless you have good sea legs as it’s probably 45 mins each way.
Cragside Estate is worth a visit, great house and grounds which you can drive around.

Personally I wouldnt go to Seahouses during the school holidays but if you have to then :

The Olde Ship Inn is nice, - has some great real ales.

The Ship Inn at Low Newton-by-the-Sea (South of Beadnell) is charming and has a micro brewery - nice coastal walks here.

If you are a SCUBA diver then go diving with the seals on the Farnes - done that several times.

Pop into St Abbs on the way down ..... beautiful little spot.
If interested in sea birds then go see them a St Abbs Head.
Just had two days there in the motor home this week (at cl site Gallows-Law)

Apart from that, make sure you visit the Alnwick & Alnmouth areas FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

+1 for Holy Island. But it's VERY popular nowadays so check the tide times and aim to get yourself marooned there. It's only cut off for 4 hours at a time. Lunch is generally OK (Ship is probably the best) but if you want an evening meal it's best to book. And wash the salt off your car when you get home. Everywhere down the Northumberland coast is nice (even Blyth has its moments) and the boat trip to the Farnes is great, especially if you are actually based in Seahouses, which is where they sail from. If you get as far south as Seaton Sluice (you probably won't) the fish and chip restaurant is awesome, and the strange art exhibition at the back of the pub is also worth a look! If what you want is a mile of sands with NOBODY else there, park at Ross and walk out to Ross Point (across the channel from Holy Island). You won't see a soul. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
