Peoples thoughts please...

I've replaced the 55w Halogen bulbs with these, with the intention of using them as a Day Time Running Light substitue (Having failed to get a suitable LED working in the position markers/Sidelights). The good news is, they are a 1-4-1 replacement, with no balast resistor required to stop the pulsing, & is a 10 min job.

I will try to get a photo in my gallery....but in general, a good idea, or not? '57 FL2 GS

Are they as bright? I have a maglite 4D with one of those 1W LEDs in them. Although it's silly bright, I can't imagine it being as bright as the existing bulbs in my car. Or is that a daft comparison? 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..

no, nowhere near as bright as the 55w halogen....But then I dont want to dazzle people, like those that use Front-Fogs when its not foggy! '57 FL2 GS

Which bulb are you replacing to use as daytime running light?

Just for info ... I've driven all my miles in the FL2 using dipped headlamp as daytime running light, most of the time with upgraded bulbs. I got 25,000 out the Halfrauds Brilliance (+50%) bulbs before the first one failed. I then fitted a pair of Brilliance +90%, currently I'm at 5000 miles with these. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor ... but not any more ... ... psst look at my gallery!

would it be legal to drive with front fogs permanently on? even with smaller bulbs? At work

True....its not Legal to drive with Front Fog lights on , if its not foggy......But what makes a front light, a fog light?.

But these are the kind of replies Im after...should I keep them?.

In reality, they are brighter than the side lights, but no where near as bright as the 55w halogens, so are they now fog lights?

When is a fog light not a fog light? I would imagine the answer lies somewhere in the depths of construction and use regulations and the road vehicle lighting regulations - not a search I would want to undertake !! I think the difference is likely to be found in the beam/cut off layout.

I think if the car's manual describes them as fog lights (position, may some pictures etc) you'll have a hard time explaining they're not. Anyway, if one excepts the are not fog lights, won't you have a problem explaining where on your car your foglights are?

What do you plan to use when it is foggy? You have reduced the brightness of these lights so they can be used all the time, which renders them useless in the fog.

I'm on the road 25-30k miles per year, so its not that I don't get out much.

IMHO I find fog lights to be very little use. In my experience the misuse of fog lights (by others) has a far bigger negative effect than any benefit I've had from them. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor ... but not any more ... ... psst look at my gallery!

I have to agree foglights do little to help you in the fog, instead they get abused by people such as my mate who says the lights are crap on his A4 so puts his fogs everytime he puts the lights on. he also says the A4's wipers a crap too but refuses to buy new blades... but he works in HR so what do you expect  At work

errmm ... you can't put the foglights on by themselves. You have to have the Dipped beam on. So why have the LED's if you already have the Dips On? Chris
