Anyone else found there are distinct blind spots on both sides of the car where following vehicles can "disappear" from view?

I have tried any number of adjustments to the mirrors but they still seem to occur

Any tips or solutions for this dangerous problem? Many years ago I used some stick on mini mirrors to overcome a similar problem - can anyone recommend any and where they got them? No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Not used any myself but there are lots for sale on ebay from complete clip on mirrors to smaller stick on ones. Some of the best selling ones have reviews about them as well which might help you decide which ones to get.

I've never suffered from blind spots on any vehicle I've owned/driven.
It really is just about how you adjust your door mirrors ..... and have confidence in that setting!
(most peole adjust so they can see behind - the interior rear view mirror is for that).

Door mirrors should be set as such:
When you're being overtaken and the rear side of the overtaking vehicle is about to vanish from your interior mirror - the front end of that vehicle should start to appear in your door mirror.
Then when the rear side of the overtaking vehicle starts to disappear from your door mirror - the front end of that vehicle should appear in your periphery then normal vision.

A similar set up should be used for the near side.

As an IAM driver, I've taught this to many drivers, yet it isn't taught in-itself by the IAM.

Yes, I can see RonP’s logic, it just doesn’t work if driving a vehicle with no rear view mirror.

....it doesn't work either if you're driving a vehicle with no side mirrors, or a motorcycle, or even if you're blind!

I don't know if it's just me but motorcyclists seem to come out of nowhere these days and weave in and out of the line of traffic. I sometime wonder if they realise how vulnerable they are. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

As my mirrors alter to view close in when I reverse, I have taken your advice a widened my view through the door mirrors in their normal mode..
I also have a little stick-on offside blind spot mirror as I have poor peripheral vision in my right eye.

I am not sure from your post you mean that you have fitted a pair of LED lights.

I had a friend Dr Chadra de Fonseka, who was a national expert in the causes of road accidents. He told me that during a study into why so many m/bikes were involved in junction accidents, it was found that the human eye was very bad at focusing on, and estimating the speed, of a single light source,(headlight) and the brighter and more intense it was, the more difficult it became to judge it's distance and speed.

The eye was much better at judging a pair of less intense lights spaced horzontally apart. (as with a car's running lights) so this is what you need to fit.

Modern m/bike's acceleration and speed only makes the problem worse, plus the fact that we are only human and better suited to catching sabre toothed tigers than dealing with fast motorcycles.

Mine make a triangle with the headlamps which I have read the human eye picks up better than anything else. They're also dimmed in daytime so that they're not bright enough to dazzle. They do come on "Full Monty" with the mainbeam and at night they turn it into day.
I have been thinking of a similar set up for the Freelander as the headlamps are such schitt. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE
