Hi

My 2009 /10 Freelander 2 XS 2.2 td4.e has a strange buzzing noise which seems to come from under the glovebox when starting the car. This happens occasionally and sounds like something either shorting out or relay trying to work

Car always starts but with this horrible noise !!

Anyone have any ideas please

Might be worth checking the battery voltage when engine is cranking as it could be a relay being affected by a large voltage drop. How old is the battery?

Many thanks for the reply, the battery appears to be original and your reply makes sense as the stop start only works occasionally !! Thinking i need to change battery as 1st step in diagnosing.

The Freelander stop start is very temperamental so even with a new battery it might not always work as it should! The battery voltage should not drop below about 12.5 volts when cranking otherwise the car can have all sort of problems due to low voltage. It might help if you allow the car to run through all its system checks before pressing the start button as the self check uses quite a bit of current on its own.

Yeah, i started pressing the start button without clutch engaged and it did help once systems checks completed. Still does it but not as often so i think change of battery may well cure the problem.

You probably know this but make sue you get a stop start battery and not a normal one. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Cheers for that - just ordered a genuine varta agm battery 800ah sae off ebay less than £100 will let you know if it cures the buzzing problem

Hi battery arrived this morning and swapped over all ow works as it should no more buzzing noise and stop start now works every time
