hasnt been serviced at a landrover specialist

making initial inquiries , it has fsh but only 3-4 are at landrover the rest at a local garage, which i dont think is a landrover specialist.

it has parking spensors at rear but apparently one isnt working, its fallen inwards and has a small ding i think on bumper where im told a supermarket trolley hit it , awaiting pictures.

imagine getting bumper sorted could be costly.

i aint gone to see it yet as its a long way way down south, couldnt be any further, lol

i know its due its cambelt water pump done, the guy who owns it has owned since new but knows very little, just takes it to local garage to do repairs mots etc, they selling it as now leased a volvo.

with being a freelander am i best looking at one thats been to a specialist in land rover for the servicing?

The service it would have received at a Land Rover dealer or specialist would be the same as any run of the mill car, oil & all the filters it’s the big 10yr service all the gear oils gets changed eg gearbox, diff helix etc along with the water pump & timing belt. Don’t be put off if it’s not a 4x4 specialist it’s not the space shuttle after all Thumbs Up

Are you not able to find one closer to home ? If you buy a pup a few miles away it’s going to be one thing but hundreds is another matter. Unless it’s a Landrover Approved vehicle leave it down South as they are happy to be fleeced Whistle

Edit. Can afford to be fleeced. Whistle FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Anyone who can service a Ford can generally service a Freelander , most of the car is from the Ford world parts bin , lots of it will even have FoMoCo stamped on it . The tricky bit is all the electronics and the Haldex , but even the Haldex is known to most garages as it was also used by Ford on Volvo XC , and is commonly used by Volkswagen/Audi on their “ quattro “ cars ( note the real Quattro with a capital Q does not use a Haldex it’s symmetrical ) . So if it’s running fine the service history should not be a problem . Where an independent LR expert comes in is knowing all the electronic gimmickry that makes the whole thing function and having th experience to diagnose an issue .

As far as the bumper goes , the reversing sensor is held by a clip on the reverse and unplugs from a wiring loom , they are available as spare parts if it’s damaged . It would be one hell of a shopping trolley to knock one out . You could probably get a rear bumper with all the sensors in from a breaker for £100 - £150 , painting it would be another £150 -£200 . It’s a quick job to get the rear bumper plastic off . If the car has had a real bang , the steel bumper reinforcing will be damaged under the plastic. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
