Thanks a bunch, it's that garage again (probably)

I'm a lazy so-and-so, and I have been taking my 08 HSE to a car wash rather than do it myself, but today the local ones are out of order so I got out the hose.

I was mighty surprised to see this ding on the rear bumper. I was more surprised that it appears an attempt has been made to touch in the damage with a blob of paint. Am I right, or are these things self-coloured?

It seems wildly unlikely that this could have happened in a car park, people would simply either apologise or leg it, they're not likely to pop off to Halfords or wherever and take the trouble to come back and dobble paint onto the damage!

The only possible conclusion is that the notorious bodgers who messed up my cam belt job a few weeks ago must be responsible as they are the only people who have had the car long enough to damage it and attempt a cover-up.

Is it possible - or sensible - to repair damage such as this or (bearing in mind the other knocks and scrapes on the same component) would it be better to look for a used one?

Bloody annoying! .. That said if it was mine, I would fill it and blow it in, pretty sure that they are plastic coloured. Mine had a tear in front corner bumper so I filled and blew the affected area in and not had any problems with it and after all, they are just a cosmetic cover to the real bumper underneath. If your not confident in doing it yourself, look for someone who Repair's motorcycle fairings. REME .. Rough Engineering Made Easy

Smart repair place will sort this type of damage fairly cheaply. I had slightly worse bumper damage on a vw golf sorted for £100. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

The bumpers are not self coloured . They are black . Mrs B reversed her car into a gatepost last year . I bought a complete bumper from the breakers for £100 , and had it painted for under £200 . Getting the rear bumper off and refitting it is a doddle .
