Just a reminder (from long ago) that if your rear wiper motor jams with the wiper not in the park position there is a danger that it can overheat and cause a fire. If this occurs pull the fuse until you can get it repaired. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Couldn't agree more. Took my motor off about 1/2 hour after last trying it and it was still quite warm so I hate to think how hot it must have been when it got jammed.

Thanks for all the great information just carried out the repair on my car like someone mentioned fitting the big trim panel was the trickiest part !

That yellow plastic wheel must be tough stuff why the motor doesn't strip the teeth from it I don't know or why the fuse doesn't blow either

I'm not alone so. Mine packed up the other day! I checked fuse and it was blown, took of motor and gave it a thorough clean and regrease. Did a bench test and it works fine. Stuck it back on and it blew the fuse. Replaced fuse to restest and that blew as well! Anyone experience this before. Would I be right in saying that this could be an earth fault somewhere?

Thanks for all this useful information.

Seems like my wiper motor has this issue now. It is parking in several different positions. I have pulled the fuse and will dismantle it in the upcoming days. Hopefully a clean-up and re-grease will do the trick. Fingers crossed!

I opened up the wiper motor today, and as expected, it was full of water. One of the electrical paths had corroded through, so replacement is my only option Sad

I got a Fiesta rear wiper motor a few days ago. It looked to be the same unit at the first glance, but on closer inspection it has a shorter spindle that the LR unit. It just cost me £20 and the internals is in superb condition. I will see if i am able to transfer the internals from the fiesta housing to my old LR housing, making it work again Smile

Jobb done with success!! All the internals was transfered from the fiesta unit to my old LR unit. I was able to gently loosen the electrical paths from the housing and put it over to the LR housing. Some of the retainer tabs broke of, but there was enough of the left to keep things properly in place. I added a drop of thin super glue to the tabs after placing the electrical paths in place just to be sure that they would stay there. The rest of the job was straight forward and wiper back in place.

One happy bunny now Smile

Both paths removed. There is an extra condensator/resistor or whatever fitted to the LR paths, but I guess that this does not play a big deal:

Just a quick thank you to all that had input on this thread. Mine stopped working last night, so I’ve just stripped, cleaned, regreased and reassembled it remembering to pull the contacts up a bit. Works perfect! Saved a bob or two, I wonder if it’ll last another 10 years? Laughing

Rear Wiper Motor P/Ns?

Hi all,

Apologies for resurrecting this old topic, but I need help on part numbers.

History: I have a 2009 Freelander 2.2TD4 Newport edition and the rear wiper has failed. I took it apart and the internals are gummed up and rusty. The gears had seized, so the teeth on the plastic wheel have shredded. I tried to repair the wheel, but no success. I purchased two replacement wheels, but neither really fit.

I'm now resigned to purchasing a new motor assembly, but am unsure of the correct part number. The original unit carries the number 53029112, which I asume is only for the Valeo motor? The complete assembly seems to be one of the following: LR002243, LR033226 or LR039788. Are these successive versions of the same part, or are they actually different?

Prices vary from £80-185 so could someone please confirm correct part number and point me towards a reliable supplier.
