Hello I have just done a oil change on my transmission by disconnectind the oil cooler pipe and pouring oil in the filling plug got it to the correct level but now a day later I have a clunk when I put it into drive. It was ok yesterday when I went out to warm up the oil I did need to add 1.5 litres not sure if this would effect it. And when I say clunk I mean it lurchs forward a bit and makes a noise.. It is cheap smith and alan oil as I can not afford the good stuff yet and I am looking to change it in a few months.. Lee

Cost of the oil is not relevant, but the specification is vital! was it the correct spec? JWS3309 for the early cars. |

Sounds like you have possibly used the wrong oil or wrong amount. Why bother putting the cheap stuff in in the first place. What spec was it and how did you check the oil level? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Your oil does not need to come from Land Rover but it does need to be the correct specification so if that is OK you need to ensure the level is now spot on.

I used jws 3324 aw-1 as I have a 2011 model and was told to use that specification. And to check the level of oil I drove for 6 miles to warm up the oil then removed the centre level plug then topped it up until it started coming out. Hence I needed 1.5 lts more Lee

1.5 lts is a quite a percentage to be down on to then drive around. Lets hope it settles down, I assume you have used all the differing driving modes available in auto to clear the fault. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

It was running when I checked I have a rave manual for my freelander and I printed off the correct way to check it and followed that but I will say that the flow for the transmission oil cooler is the opposite way around to the manual not sure why.. Lee

I'm not having any problems with changing gear before or after oil change although it is smoother changing with new oil in Lee

It does rev a bit higher going from 3 to 4 but only about 200 to 300 rpm more but it's probably my style of driving as it's a learning gearbox if that's any help.. Lee
