As a matter of curiousity, what did you drive during your “sabbatical”?

With many traditional new Defender buyers having moved on to Toyota, Nissan, VW, Mitsubishi, Isuzu et al, how much more difficult is it going to be winning them back, once they’ve developed new loyalties, than it would have been if they hadn’t neglected them in the first place?!

Luckily, after more than half a century in the motor trade I can have the use of most vehicles.
But mostly a 2006 Berlingo Multispace.
(Lots of other vehicles also, but would rather not say)

I really like the low door window height of the Freelander

Maybe a Landcruiser Amazon VX might have suited me.

Darn practical they are too I used to borrow one of those at work when I needed to shift anything at the weekend

Unfortunately, a low window height is getting much rarer , as function becomes a lower and lower design priority

I’m not a fan of of the newer styling. But let’s look at some facts however...

1. McGovern has contributed making the brand more successful
2. A lot of Defenders buyers (farmers) moved on years ago to jap stuff. JLR don’t need the Defender name/model to make them more money.
3.The Defender cost JLR money to manufacture. The Celebration Series was the turning point. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

We've owned exclusively Land Rover cars since the late 90's, originally a Range Rover, but followed by a RR P38, a Freelander 1 and now we have an FL2 and a Defender. To me as a user the FL2 doesn't seem dated, other than maybe in terms of fuel consumption.

Of the Land Rovers we've owned the one I look back on nostalgically is our first Range Rover. This was a late 3.5L with the chain driven transfer box and viscous coupling in place of diff lock. Aside from the Defender of course, each of our later Land Rovers has had slightly worse off road capabilities than it's predecessor, in spite of ABS and traction control and the other electronic goodies. ----------
