7 pin towing electrics problem

Hi all,

Just tried to use my towing electrics (7 pin) for the first time and it's not working.

These were fitted when I got the vehicle and I've checkedthey are the genuine ones. Trailer module behind the LH panel in the boot (6G9N-14D054-AB).

When testing with a continuity tester side lights activate pins 5 and 7 and pin 2 is activated by the left hand indicator and the brake lights. Nothing else activates.

Any ideas greatly received.

Thanks

Pezzer

Unless your car is MY13 or later you will probably have to have the electrics activated - plenty of posts on here about what and why etc No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Ive had 3 FL2s and installed the towbar and towing electrics myself each time.

Each was different regarding the wiring loom.

07 plate - the most complex of the lot, needed to be activated by LR dealer Sad

61 plate - simpler to install but the parking sensors deactivation needed to be switched on by the dealership (I never bothered)

64 plate - very easy installation (and the cheapest) - full plug-n-play. No need to visit LR.

I now use an adaptor for my 7 pin trailer Jules

It's an 08 and had the electrics on it when I bought it. It has the module and a relay behind the near side panel in the boot.
I've checked all the wires for continuity and everything check out. L

Is there an easy way to check if it's been activated?

Cheers

Pezzer

Unfortunately I dont know how you can easily check that the software has been updated.

I expect someone on here has the knowledge but failing that Id enquire at a local LR independent garage in the first instance for advice. Jules

If the trailer module has been activated in the CCF, the green trailer light will illuminate in the instrument cluster when trailer connected.

To be honest, I thought the trailer lights worked without the module being activated, just the instrument light & reverse sensors don't work as they should if not activated.

As jules said above, later models are plug & play!

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies so far. Had a bit of progress as I've now got a lighting board hooked up to it rather than using a meter.

Most seems to work properly. Side lights, brake lights, reverse sensors go off when selecting reverse.

Only issue seems to be indicators. When in the car all seems ok as the trailer light flashes on the cash but on the board the right hand indicator does nothing and the left hand indicator flashes the brake lights.

I've gone through the wiring for continuity and check that the correct wires are on the correct pins. We have also checked the board on another car and it works fine.

Anyone got any ideas what else I can check?

On the genuine harness there is the trailer module and what looks like a relay sitting under it. What does this relay control? Could it be to do with the indicators and is faulty?

Cheers

Pezzer

Turned out to be the tow module.

Dan AT Duckworths supplied me with a new wiring kit at a great price and with quick delivery.

All working as it should now.
