I run my tyres, Goodyear's in the same size as yours at 36 psi or approx 2.5 bar in your case. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

2.2 bar is LR recommendation. 2.8 bar (40psi) seems too high to me

With all my cars, for normal everyday driving, I've gone by the 'door' recommendation - wouldn't have thought it varied from one brand of tyre to another?

Questions about tyre pressures come up on car forums all the time. The car manufacturer recommends a pressure for normal conditions (2.2 bar in the case of the FL2). Why vary from that? Significantly higher or lower pressures are likely to result in uneven tyre wear.

As I spend a lot of time up and down the M4 I tend to keep the tyres at 36 psi. Lower than that and the outer edges of the tyres wear more than the centre and the fuel economy goes down.

Always set mine at 32psi regardless of which tyre brand fitted, always had even tread wear except for NSF shoulder outer edge. |

32psi or 2.2 bar. It’s always the same. Doesn’t matter what make of tyre, or tread pattern. Loaded vehicle or traveling light. Towing or not. Off road or on road (except for soft sand). It’s always the same.

There was a bit on the BBC this morning about the new MOT. Interesting that low tyre pressure is one of the reasons for failing the new MOT, presumably it will be just a visual check. I can't see them measuring the actual pressures.

Strangely, my wife's Astra has two recommended tyre pressures. "normal" and "Eco". "Eco" is (from memory) about 8 lbs higher. presumably gives less rolling resistance. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Get a tyre pyrometer and go for a spirited drive and check for constant temps across the tread and alter accordingly?

Not at all Spagley - if your tyres are even temp across the tread they are happy tyres. My posh Fluke meter has a lazer infra red temp sensor thingy and I used it to get my kit car's pressures just right. When I collected my FL2 from my seller, I was puzzled by the harsh ride (not much but noticeable) and found that the tyres were set to 38psi. When I set them to 33 psi everything improved a little including less tyre roar - even SWMBO noticed the next day Cheers, Raz FL1 TD4 GS Auto 2001 Silver FL2 TD4 Auto 2007 Black FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2012 Fuji White |

Just did 400 km on corrugated roads, 25 PSI which ends up at 30 PSI once they have warmed up.

To reopen an old topic with a slightly different question. I was doing the tyre pressures today (yes I know I meant to check weekly but I don't) and I was curious as to why the FL2 has the same tyre pressures all around (same as my previous XC Volvo's) but the DS has lower tyre pressures at the rear? Does anyone know why this is and whether it has an effect on tyre wear?
