I popped in to my local Land Rover dealer for a look round at all the latest models to see what possible replacement I could look at for my Freelander in a year or so, what surprised me was that the RR Sport and full sized RR both had similar depth space in the boot when measured for anything that you would like to stow beneath the blind. This was due to both having a similar slope at the rear end. I looked at the Discovery too and liked the inside but don't think I could live with the exterior view, I know I wouldn't see it when driving but I would be looking at it when it was on my drive. I asked the salesman about lead time on this model and I was told I could have one built to my own spec and delivered within 6 weeks, when I asked about the RR Sport he said the lead time was 4 months. The implication there is that the Discovery isn't selling as well as they had hoped, perhaps this will lead to a revision of the rear end sooner rather than later.

Well covered I know but the rear of the new disco is offensive. I can't even look at one on the road, my ocd goes into overdrive..

I had a drive in a D5. There is a lot that needs fixing before we get to the centre plate conversion. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own! |

Have had the pleasure of driving my brothers HSE Luxury SI6 supercharged I really can’t fault the car. Yes the rear plate is offset just like it’s predessors! Only difference is that it’s an oblong plate.

In the interests of balance, it’s easy to get bored of the endless groundless optimism too! “If only you’d drive one”, “It doesn’t matter what it looks like from the outside”, “I don’t need all of the space and visibility”, “it’s growing on me / will grow on you” (no car should ever have to grow on you!) and so on...

Tigger did you ever own a Discovery 2? Remember the uproar with the deletion of the spare wheel on the tailgate door. The D3 was a marmite car also then it grew on D2 owners ... MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

No, I never did own a D2, though I did drive a D1, which was pretty frightening to drive at motorway speeds!

I have to say I do like the D5 but again I don't like that style of offset number plate. If I could afford to buy a D5 then I could afford to get that Startech conversion for the rear end which IMO makes it look massively better. |

The startech conversion is more hassle than it’s worth.
