Glad you got it fixed Alex. I've been out and checked all of my wheel bearings today after your comments. All fine thankfully.

Interesting topic.
I have some noise issues but only at 1800 rpm and 60 mph. I have a resonating sound from the rear. Gets louder with my caravan attached. Yes I am allowed to drive that fast in Germany and France.

Just ordered the magnetic plug. See what that tells me.
But that is not enough for me. I had a search on what diagnostic tools there are. Besides chassis ears.

Got triggered by an interesting video on YouTube that shows how you can make your own tool.
Ordered a 6 eur (no shipping charges) microphone which I can fix to a clip from a old car battery jump cable. Should plug right into my smartphone or even the AUX input in my Centre console (the latter might not work as it has no amplifier). Has a 2 meter length of wire which can be lengthened naturally.

If that does not work I ordered also a 15 euro sports Bluetooth headset/microphone combo from Hong Kong. Has the size of a plastic cigarette lighter. Leave out the wired earplugs and fix it to the same crocodile clip mentioned before. That unit should pair to a Bluetooth speaker I borrowed from the kids. Wonder if that works. Lots of metal in the way of the Bluetooth signal.

Anyone who has done similar experiments. Looked very convenient to me to have such a tool that can be used in lots of places.
I will let you know how it turns out.

I don't mind replacing all the rear bearings or the differential, but why replace something that isn't broke.

@Yorky Bob, I fitted the Bell Engineering rebuilt diff this week & peace reigns again!

When I get a minute I'll fit the chassis ears & see what it sounds like.
