Hello all!

The ongoing problem with our -07 HSE 2.2 has now entered the "it must be the turbo" stage.

The mechanic has had the variable vane actuator refurbished, but the actuator rod is not moving freely.
His soloution was to get a refurb turbo unit at £600

I pointed him to the SSM4B477 "seized actuator arm"
He claims that the whole turbo unit has to be disassembled = hours and hours of work.

LR states that the time is 0.8 hours for turbo actuator renew ...?

Can someone here get me the TOPix workshop manual section 303-04C "Turbocharger actuator remow/refit"??

This has been a disaster from start to finish

I had a similar problem on an Alfa Gt turbo, basically a garrett turbo.
Once the turbo is off the 2 sides of it can be split. Often the vans get stuck due to soot deposit build ups.
These can be cleaned and freed up very easily.

Sounds like you might want to ring around a few other mechanics, as this is a very common fault in modern TDI engines.
