Hi all
If I crank the engine without the diesel filter connected should I get diesel to the filter?
If I change the filter should I fill it with fuel first?

Normally you'd use a vacuum device to suck the fuel through the filter and then reconnect the remaining feed pipe to the engine otherwise you end up with air in the system, if you do a search for fuel filter on here I suspect someone has already done a write up of changing the filter. Hope this helps

If you change the fuel filter on a Freelander 2 it needs priming as the system does not self prime, I bleed the system with a vacuum pump connected to the return outlet of the fuel filter the one to the tank (looking at the filter from the top it is the rear on the left) this extracts all the air in the system, from the filter, fuel pump and injector lines. Once the system is purged of air the vehicle should start without any problem.
