Ireland 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Barolo Black
Central locking, rear widows and tailgate

Hi have a 09 free-lander 2 diesel,
Driving me mad, first rear windows wont respond, and the on/off switch does light up,
then rear doors have to be used manually no affect from central locking,
driver door slight movement on handle but wont lock unless manually, but will unlock electronicly.
now rear tail gate sometimes unlocking, and when parked unlocking sometimes keeps going, thus battery goes flat.
Have changed key fob, charged battery and that has helped tail gate,;
am I right to need new tailgate switch, locking module driver door ; but what about rear doors/ windows , checked fuses.
any help very welcome before I take all the door trims off,

get the codes read first, and that should tell you which door module(s) are faulty.

mine was playing up locking up all the doors but its was the drivers and rear passenger side door locks needed replacing.

Diagnostics would be a good idea.
Each door function is controlled by a module in each door as you don’t have windows or locking on both back doors it could be that the rear door modules have lost communication with the bcm, try a hard reset, don’t forget to reset windows after reconnecting power. MY15

Thanks guys, all good advise will do a hard reset now then get codes read, have taken bulb out of boot as that was on constant, causing low battery, probably due to the tailgate switch,
talk later regards JK

Ok, things take a bit of time here in west Cork.
have plugged the beast in and there were a total of 40 plus faults!!! going back 3 years.[ previous air flow valve& extra terrain control, ]
the recent and most relative being driver door locking module, tailgate lock, it didn't mention rear doors{ test unit was a Snapon not Land rover} but did say passenger front door locking module not communicating, It does in fact work OK.

So Next is a new Battery, new driver door locking module, & tailgate lock, then we will see what is next, and if the rear doors and windows are in need of new modules, any ideas gladly welcome,

Best regards JK

Ok Update new tailgate lock all good, lubricated driver door locking, worked but only occasionally so will need new module, new battery, but still no joy with back doors, checked all fuses/ wires, still no response to central locking or windows,
All looking like door control units.
so anybody know how they all relate .
does the front passenger one and the Driver'S affect the two on the back doors, and do they in turn affect each other?
would like to find the faulty one before replacing all of them albeit one by one.

Any ideas greatly appreciated,

The Freelander 2 Repair Manual has quite a good write up on how the locking works and a good fault finding guide for it.

down load from;

I’m sure I saw somewhere that the driver’s door module controlled the other door modules, so perhaps once the drivers door is sorted the others might be back to normal - that might also account for only the drivers door showing as a fault code. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Ok an update; did hard reset & changed over rear door modules and suddenly the rear left worked then stopped.
another hard reset changed them back again and rear right door worked, then stopped.
another reset put in new driver door module ; right back and front worked but not left front and back{ front left by itself worked}
another reset replaced new driver module with old and both front worked and rear right;then again stopped.
So front doors work but not the rear,

Any ideas? would be gladly welcome!!!

All finally sorted

At last here are the solutions to the Central locking;Rear windows & doors,passenger front window.

New battery, new tailgate switch and new driver's door locking mechanism,
then two new rear door modules,
Lots of hard resets, and silicon spray for passenger window runner,

Moral of the tale fix something as soon as possible so the problems do.'t mount up and confuse the issue'
many thanks to Worms, & Ian Metro, for intelligent replies,
Best regardsjk
