I want to put a dashcam near the rearview mirror and wonder if there's a 5V wire in that overhead console?

And does anyone know how to remove it without damaging it?

Otherwise I'll have to buy a voltage converter and out it in there ...

I bought one of these from ebay.




soldered two wires onto one end and added a short usb lead ,with correct connector for the camera, to the other. A bit of heat-shrink over it to stop it coming apart and to insulate it.
Then by removing the interior light, you can access the switched live feed and the return for the rear view mirror. These need to be separated and bared so you can solder the wires to them. Re-insulate with tape and tuck it all out of the way.
All you need to do now is feed your plug wire out behind the mirror, plug it in, stick cam to the top of the window and you end up with a very inconspicuous installation. No wires on show. Very Happy

This is what I was looking for: something that someone has done before, not a nagging from my Aunt Betty👜.
I like the use of the USB receptacle - future proofs in case I change camera. And thanks for the tip about the lamp.
