Alternative Sat Nav

I came across this company the other day,

http://www.audiofile-incar.co.uk/navigatio...eelander-2

this might make the Sat Nav more useable in the long term when the DVD discs upgrades are no longer available.

I did find an other site which only supplied but not fitted the same kit.

I think the critical thing here is "If you own a Freelander 2 without Satellite Navigation..."

There are now a whole raft of Android based systems which will go in the storage hole, if it is a storage hole. It is when there is a SAT NAV there already where the fun starts. And if you have a SAT NAV and steering wheel controls and high end audio then the opportunities for some/many/all of the current features you enjoy not to work are significant.

I have considered the swap myself but having read many of the reports here, while it has been shown to be entirely doable the number of connectors and adaptors required puts me off. If and when my in dash sat nav dies I will perhaps look at the conversion but, at the moment I can't see that it is worth the effort.

And with regard to their £650 supply and fix cost, you could get a much more powerful, flexible and fully integrated system for less than that.....if you are prepared for the can of worms fitting it may unearth (see above).

You have pointed out things that I had also thought about, so I gave them a call.

What I was told was this was something that they used to do a lot of mainly for dealers who had cars with out sat nav systems as it was a simple and cheap way of installing something. The technical person I spoke to thought that they could probably do a replacement install although they have not done one before - they do a similar install on RR sports and he believed that the systems were similar.

So it is a possible option if someone would like to try.
