Hi new here and this is my first post asking for help, i was wondering if any of you kind folk could advise me what the internal diameter of the flexiable rubber pipe required to replace the ones which perish are. Mine are showing signs of cracking and I don't want to remove them until I have a replacement too hand, I have searched to forum but cannot find any reference to the internal size of pipe used. By the way, great site lot of good stuff and fixes.

Am I missing something here? Can't you just measure the diameter of the metal pipes attached and get some suitable sized jubilee clips ready? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Hi thanks for your replies the reason for asking for help is that I am unable to get under the vehicle to measure at present due to a slipped disc back issue as for being a kid I am a retired automotive consultant engineer with over 45 years experience and I was seeking a bit of constructive help for those good folk who have already replaced the pipe on their vehicles, not critics, if you don't want to help then don't reply.

Apologies, some that have been on here 5 minutes think its smart to be sarcastic, its why a lot left the forum when they came along.

I too am a 'retired consultant engineer' ...... but with ONLY 30yrs experience.

As it took me that long to amass sufficient funds to retire at 48 and keep myself in the life I had become accustomed.


Now my brother is into music, I will ask him if he knows of any back issue discs by 'Slipped' (not a band know to me)

Hi Jules many thanks for your reply much appricated, in answer to your question about what the pipe do. The Differential Pressure Sensor or DPF Sensor is located in the engine compartment and is used to monitor the condition of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Two connections on the DPF Sensor are connected by pipes to the Inlet and Outlet of the DPF. The pipes allow the DPF Sensor to measure the Inlet and Outlet pressures of the DPF. As the amount of particulate trapped by the DPF increases, the pressure at the Inlet side of the DPF increases in comparison to the DPF Outlet. The DPF software uses this comparison, in conduction with other data, to calculate the accumulated amount of trapped particulate. By measuring the pressure difference between the DPF Inlet and Outlet air flow and the DPF Temperature, the DPF software can determine if the DPF is becoming blocked and requires regeneration. A relatively clean DPF will return a voltage of approximately 0.5V. This rises to approximately 4.5V for a full DPF. If the Differential Pressure Sensor returns a voltage of 4.5V or more and all other conditions are met, regeneration of the DPF will occur.

I dont know what passes up and down those PDF pipes but silicone hoses are not recommended where contact with fuel or oil is a possibility.

Which makes me wonder why they are used as Turbo intercooler hoses when intercoolers are full of oily gunge from EGR systems.

EDIT : Further research on internet says "good resistance to oil mist can be imparted with the addition of a fluorosilicone liner." The liner is not required for coolant silicone hoses.

It seems there are silicone hoses and there are silicone hoses - those coming into contact with fuel or oil require a liner. Jules

I had a look at the DPF pipes when I was under my Evoque today (2012 model, 45K on the clock) with a view to changing them if they looked likely to perish. They were all fine so left them alone but they just look like standard fuel hoses with an internal diameter of 8mm. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Thanks Steve that's much appricated. I can now order some pipe and clips up mine are okay (MOT guy said) but showing signs of cracking and the routing appears to be very tight on the photos I've seen posted, will cut mine a little longer so they can flex a bit more without putting to much strain on them.
