England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Buckingham Blue
My opinion..

Well' I have owned the car for two weeks and nearly 2000 miles.
What can I say' it is unreal I absolutely love it, I have owned other Land rover cars such as a 2000 P38 and numerous Discoverys (no D3 or D4 yet) which is what I really wanted but engine failures put me off.
This car is great, Functional/good mpg/fast/comfy/looks the Censored with 19" and AT3 grabbers/which are tested in mud and snow.

I can not say any more than this car is fantastic.
One happy customer, not cheap to buy but will hold it's value.

I can see you are pleased with it but sorry, even vehicles that are still being currently produced don’t hold their value. Just enjoy it for what it is and expect an enjoyable loss. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

Terry The Tangerine Truck (which we bought LR Approved) held his value for the first 5 years we had him. Having a colour like Marmite meant he was a good buy in the first place (unless we could be bothered to go "Ooop North".

Now the FL2 is no longer current values are going to plummet. There is also an absolute swarm of 2nd hand Ewocks on the market which will depress values further. Ewocks are still seen as current so potentially more desirable, have Range Rover on them etc. so if they are cheap FL2's aren't going to be more.

On the plus side, I agree with the sentiments of the OP. We have had Terry about 8 years now and I have no desire to change him. The current equivalent is silly money and even the last of the FL2s are little different aside a sweeter engine.

The previous Discos were outstanding but, while you quickly got use to their size when driving, parking in London or manoeuvring around the tourists in Gower soon reminded you it was not a small vehicle.

Terry is just about perfect in every way.

If you think Freelander values have plummeted just have a look what used Range Rovers + Range Rover sports are fetching on the used car market Whistle

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

Just my tuppence-worth here...

Have had and loved RR Vogues, big Beemers, Mercs etc., over the years. Loved the RR’s, but I’m now a pensioner and big V8’s aren’t on the agenda.

The late ’64-plate SD4 Metro - which I’ve had for 15 months now is quite simply the perfect compromise for my requirements... lovely on M-ways and major roads, super ‘toys’ etc., tows like a good-un, and is really outstanding off-road in all but seriously extreme conditions....
I smile when I get in it
I laugh happily when I drive it
I can afford to run it
It’s a very pretty car
It works
It 'does what it says on the tin’
It’s got the lovely green oval on it
It ain’t a ‘wannabe’ SE Asian SUV jelly-mould-mobile.
It’ll probably see me out.

As the fictional Mr Darling said.... ‘perfick’!

Just my opinion of course.

I've decided to stop being a good example and will now just be a terrible warning.....
2008 TD4HSE - gone but much loved.
2014MY SD4 Metropolis - very much loved.

I agree with above.

Go for the latest, best equipped, SD4 you can find, while they are still available with a proper Land Rover warranty.

I swapped my 2010 FL2 for a later one last year. We find the car very comfortable, and quick enough to cover journeys without a fuss.

Edit -- that includes having a white beard!! FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

You’ve made a great choice of car with the FL2, of that there is no doubt, but you don’t want to pay too much attention to the hysteria around engine failure on Disco3/4. It seems that for every one person that may have a genuine problem, there are a few dozen, with no direct experience of it, but who seem to just enjoy joining in with a collective wailing and gnashing of teeth!! Rolling Eyes

I’ve owned two with no bother and I know several owners of them, all of whom have had no bother. But nothing thrives on a car Forum like bad news, true or otherwise! Rolling Eyes
