Have you considered trying LED replacements? I popped in a set of H7 & H11 last week and the difference was amazing! The latest versions (7th gen I believe) are nothing like the feeble bulbs of a couple of years ago, but stay away from the COB variants as they don't give a good beam pattern. Cheers,
Raz

Yes I have the HB3 '130' bulbs too, very bright white glow.

Passed MOT only this week.

They are rated at 12V 65W, although the previous bulb was only 12V 55W.

Thumbs Up

Late models Fl2 has a problem with the main/dipped bulb (same bulb with a shutter) overheating and causing reduced lifespan. The problem gets worse with these high power bulbs as they get even hotter. LR 's solution is to insert a resistance wire to reduce the current to the bulb to stop the over heating but it reduces its light output too. Jules

Reduces its light output... the light output is already shocking Rolling with laughter

JLR don't seem to do the Philips anymore, they're Sylvania now.

Right bulb came with the car (20 months ago), left bulb bought 12 months ago. Its now on Bosch bulbs from Halfords.

I now actively carry HB3s given how often they blow. I do around 25k a year, lights always on AUTO.

This is what I want to do, but I understand legally they have to be auto levelling, and i've never seen a kit/parts for auto levelling Sad

Re the H7 led bulbs. May I ask the make model etc. Presumably you sourced some sort of clip to hold them to the reflector. Room for the heat sink presumably, and how did you position and secure the ballast / driver?

So many questions, sorry.

The H7 just needed a couple of layers of foam tape around the main part of the body to gently wedge it in place (they don't get hot so no problems with the tape so far) The H11 was chosen carefully and I simply picked the one with the lowest profile and side entry cable - it JUST clears the headlight cover.
It is also worth mentioning that there was no problem with the CANBUS but the sidelight conversion (Philips LED) required a resistor to prevent flashing.
A couple of weeks of night driving now and no problems at all Very Happy
As a guide, here is a pic of the 'bulbs' that I installed Cheers,

I uprated my headlights to Xenons from Halogen on my MY11 XS.It was simple plug and play after editing the CCF Its been through two MOTS and self levelling has never been mentioned or been an issue.
Im just about to px my Freelander and my Xenons are for sale in the classifieds!
I messed around with Bulbs and believe me the Xenon upgrade is night and day difference ( pardon the pun)

Do not forget that the MOT rules changed in April, you may not get through next time round because they will be looking out for this upgrade.
