VW Up / Skoda Citigo / Seat Mii

Anyone got any experience of any of the above?
My eldest will be learning to drive soon and thinking that one of those would be a good 1st car. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Bought SWMBO a Mii Toca 4 years ago, her third Seat in a row. (2 x Arosa prior to the Mii).

All I can say is, if only JLR built cars to the same quality I’d be a happy man. Apart from consumables, none of them have cost an extra penny nor broken down, and all sailed through their MOT tests without problem.

She has actually said she doesn’t want it replacing now it’s 4 years old as she loves it and there is nothing wrong with it. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

We have a 13 reg Up (High Up spec). Cracking little car. Lovely interior at that spec level and very economical. Not got the engine for much overtaking but for what it's for, city driving, it can fit into any space.

All I'd say is there seems to be a common issue with the cars of our age where the Bluetooth music streaming can be iffy and the radio reception is pish. But other than that, great car. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Had a Seat Ibiza 1.4L 1995 for 18 years 250,000 km, my mechanic wanted it when I got the Freelander, don't know if the new ones would last that long without too many problems!

The passenger door & the hatch were a bit out of alignment, difficult to open & some paint rubbed off, a bit like my Freelander! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Good to hear, they look like cracking little cars with decent build quality. Definitely on the short list. Thumbs Up Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

If you didn’t know, the specs overlap. The Skoda is entry level, the top level Skoda over laps into the base Mii, etc. A frugal 3 cylinder engine with great economy. The kids seem to prefer the kudos of the VW, with a very active owners club online. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

Am I correct to say Seat and Skoda are VW family?

^ Correct Thumbs Up

I got a Seat Mii from LR as a loaner, it was bog standard with nothing on it and a 1.0 engine. It was nice enough to run around in but I would go for one with a bit of kit. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Id say the VW is probably the more desireable badge to have on the front but as they are all virtually identical I'll see whats available when we go looking for one at the end of August / start of September. Thanks for all your input. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

If money isn’t a concern I’d take the UP GTI. Looks like a bit of fun. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

before you part with hard earned cash check the cost of insurance - for higher risk drivers it can make a massive difference.
Looking at a small newish car for our son - ended up with an MG3, not a badge we had heard of, but looks and drives OK, and dirt cheap to insure. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

As said above find out the insurance and running costs before you commit to any car. Plenty of work for your son to do in preparation for purchasing a car & part of the administration one has to do of owning a car.

Down under some insurance companies charge a bit less for white cars as they have slightly fewer accidents.

I hope he has saved rather than the finance route! People who use finance purchase more expensive models and extras than people who pay cash! Don't get sucked into the "next" model up the ladder!

Make sure car rego is not at the time of the year that you are likely to be on holidays in the longer term. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Is this the VW that cheated and lied over emissions and started the whole media war against diesels, for which everyone else suffered? How was this badge able to shrug this self inflicted disaster off so quickly? I certainly won’t be buying any of their products for a very long time Evil or Very Mad
