Have you asked if the LR dealers down there do the 3+ service scheme ? £275 for A service and £350 for B service inclusive of VAT.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I will phone around to get best price - it's just the starting point that amazes me! If the main dealer price in Edinburgh is £450, then the local independent there (who was fantastic) would charge about £250. Hence I'm a bit stunned by the £550 price from the Portsmouth main dealer. |

I have 4 dealers within reasonable distance off me in Nottingham and Doncaster (both Stratstone), Hunters in Derby, and Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield.

Just less than 3 years ago B service in Wakefiled £520. After a negotiation in Ripon it was £350.

Thats definitely the way to go, if you are able and capable and dont mind getting your hands dirty. I realise dealers have to make money and cover overheads but quite frankly what they charge for a simple oil and filter change is taking the

Thank you for all the replies. Target price at a main dealer from the figures submitted should be sub £400.

Thats a sub £400 target for a B service and it generally if on a 3 years cycle service wont include new brake fluid.

Booked mine in a few days ago for MOT and a B service at Yeovil LR on the 3+ scheme £350 and even though I didn't need a loan car (just a lift into town) the workshop is booked up for nearly a month ahead. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Am going through this with my D4 at the moment, needs a 128k service so I have been ringing round the dealers & prices vary from £565 to just shy of £800! The labour is 2.8 hours, a service kit is sub £100 bought from a dealer as genuine parts & it needs 6 litres of oil. The big cost is the labour rate which in some cases even with Allegiance discount is horrendous. Best price I got was from Inchcape in Southampton (ex Hunters) - if you want/need a dealer stamp in the book try them.

At these rates you could have a weekend in Exeter or Truro while you get the car serviced and still be in pocket! It's beginning to sound as if the garages in more prosperous areas have ditched the scheme as they know they can charge more. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I've used Keith Gott for the past 3 years, excellent service. They're about 35 miles from Portsmouth, so you could have a day trip out to Alton http://www.keithgott.co.uk/index.html |

If anyone is interested I had the 3+ year scheme "B" service at Yeovil LR today plus an MOT for £395. Everything OK. Lift into town and back provided and I was given a printout of the car's service history with my invoice and MOT paperwork. A car wash was offered but I decided to forego rather than wait as they had a number of cars in the queue.
