Issue with Freelander 2 tailgate switch opening randomly

My Freelander 2 MY2014 has developed a problem where the tailgate release opens randomly.

Symptoms seem to happen when starting car, opening another door although doesn't display symptoms once central locking in operation while driving or once locked from outside the car.

Believe this is a common fault. Wondered if the only way to fix is to replace tailgate release switch above number plate.

Hi - Mine has been doing it as well.

There is a thread on here about changing the tailgate switch and I have just ordered one from Dan @ Duckworth parts for £21 ( site sponsor ).

Shouldnt be too much hassle to change it so will try over the weekend

I have a different but possibly related problem with my tailgate opening. The lock will disengage every time with the
tailgate fob button but takes several attempts when using the general unlock button. Any ideas?

Seems that the original switch just corrodes so can send random sigs to the controller.

I did mine last year, but on the cheap by removing the old switch unit, chopping it up and epoxying in a new microswitch.

Far easier to just fit a drop in unit, but I begrudge spending real money if I have a suitable 80p item in stock that will do the job Wink

replaced my switch today and was slightly worried as the licence plate bulbs looked different to the fitted ones. Once removed though it all went together nicely and only took an hour (even cleaning everything up before refitting).

Best £21 I’ve spent on the old girl.

Hi all

Managed to replace switch successfully and looks like it has solved the problem

Was reasonable easy to fit. Would recommend a magnetic socket set as as has anxious moment when socket head disappeared into tailgate....some fishing required!

Thanks for everyone’s advice
