oil level

carried out an oil and filter change today which was fairly straight forward thanks to my new 27mm swivel head spanner, but on refilling 5.6ltr on checking the dip stick level it was reading way above the marks. so i measured the old oil and found it only to be only just 5ltrs ,my question is because the dip stick is twisted and looks a bit f@£"ed how accurate is it and do you reckon my car was only filled to 5ltr because dip stick is wrong

First of all I think the dip stick is fairly accurate. Lots of things could affect the reading. Did you check the level before running the engine (ie before filling the oil filter)? Is the car level? Did you include the oil in the old filter in the 5Lt you measured? Regardless of all that, I would go by the dipstick and only fill to the top mark or just below.

Believe it or not the dipstick is supposed to be twisted like that.

Ive worked on cars for years and It's the first one I've ever seen like that I thought it had somehow been caught and twisted so l was going to straighten it out Laughing would of been plenty oil in then

And if you're a bit OCD like me it's a proper pain getting it in with the little oil can on the top pointing to the front.

By being twisted, the flat section dipstick is able to bend in two axis, to navigate a convoluted route to the sump, without jamming Thumbs Up

Well if we don't want it jam, we had better put some oil on it. Embarassed I'll get my coat.

If your dipstick is showing too little oil you have two options. Add some oil or get a longer dipstick. Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
