Prices do rocket during the winter months for 4x4 as for 18plates not seen a single one yet but we might be heading for some bargain Land Rovers soon if Mr Trump does carry out his threat to increase import tax on foreign automakers, Land Rover is the US biggest customer base, trouble is our used cars will take a hit. |

Yes but will dealers pass on savings?? doubt it. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

I'm up and down motorways all the time at the moment and have seen less than half a dozen 18 pate vehicles, only one of those was a Land Rover. Normally I would expect to see more than this by now, possibly the fear that remains regarding diesel cars is stopping people from buying at the moment, I know that sales have declined since diesel became the demon of motoring last year.

A Land Rover is very much a niche product and people will always buy one because of its all weather, towing, ground clearance etc abilities. Diesel I fear is dead as the realities of particulates are more fully understood. The politicians are going to make it more uncomfortable to own a diesel car, so going forward it will be only those who really need all the Land Rover attributes who will buy one and the majority will probably go for a petrol SUV or something else. The times they are a changing... 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto |

I think diesel is a long way from dead yet. There just isn't a viable alternative at a reasonable price. I'll stay with the dirty derv and pay the extra tax for as long as possible. Small petrol / electric hybrids just don't interest me. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

It’s a farce as we will generate more power in dirty power stations just to power electric cars. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Looking at your car history, what are you likely to do for your next car? |

With all the talk about 40,000 early deaths due to air pollution I wonder if anyone has factored in how many hard of hearing old folks will be run over by silent electric cars in coming years. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

you don't need to be hard of hearing, in electric mode they are practically silent so any background noise will drown out the tyre roar |

Picked up my '08 F2 3.2 i6 a few weeks ago as a second car and loving it, its smooth, refined, quiet and plenty of grunt - I just don't understand why the F2 wasn't given a suitable petrol alternative if the i6 was viewed as too thirsty - it seems there was a 2 litre turbo petrol, but I assume this was an export only model ? I had a '12 plated RRS V6 diseasal for a while and it's the first and last diesel engine car I'll ever own. |

The Ford 2.0 turbo replaced the Volvo 3.2 and was only available for export. If you look at the small number of 3.2 petrols that were sold, then imagine how much smaller the market for an “economy” petrol engine would have been, when everyone who wanted economy would have just bought the diesel anyway (before the fashion for petrol / media hysteria against diesel took hold). |

I guessed that was the case - be nice to have been given the choice though - and I agree the anti diesel sentiment being whipped up is interesting given that if my memory serves me right it was the government of the day that encouraged everyone to go diesel in the first place and of course then diesel was as cheap as chips at the pumps too ! (love your avatar by the way !!) F2 3.2 i6 for the white stuff
