Wheel Comes Off Discovery And Hits Young Girl

Poor lass hope she recovers, the car looks like it's been messed about with extra lights and aftermarket wheels, imagine the force that wheel had when it hit her.Interesting Freelander comment at the bottom.

Tragic story, let's all hope that the little girl makes a full recovery. As for the vehicle, that will be examined by the police and a report of any defects will be used to make a case against the owner/driver if necessary. I hope for their sake that everything was above board and that they didn't cut corners/bodge repairs etc

Looking at the car and stereotyping it may well be a wheel spacer that caused it. Hopefully the girl recovers Thumbs Up MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

In reference to the Freelander comment. Aren't these Freelander parts Volvo!

Could be the wheel was overtightened by a mechanic when the tyres were last replaced & the bolt snapped off & eventually the wheel came off. Someone I knew many decades ago had this almost happen. The wheel was bolted on with 3 or the 4 bolts! Mazda from Memory, not that that has anything to do with it!

Plenty of Australians run over & kill their children in their driveway's every year! Maybe we should blame the manufacture! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

there was an incident a few years back where a guy in a heavily modified 110 Defender rolled it down a steep embankment into one of the Lincolnshire waterways. Sadly there were deaths and I believe they were young teenagers IIRC.
The 110 was examined and even though he was a member of a responsible 4x4 club and should have known better, the mods were found to be the cause of the incident and he went to prison.

Im sure the Police engineers will go over everything with a fine tooth comb and act accordingly.

Hopefully the little girl recovers with no long lasting injuries. Shocked

Terrible affair, poor lass hope she makes it.

BTW would the police have removed number plate?? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

it may be in the front window as a lot of off roaders who fit winch bumpers stick on either on the bonnet or the windscreen

That report makes no mention of the driver ...... then again its is The Sun. Rolling Eyes
Normally they'd at least mention he/she departed the scene, was detained for questioning or arrested.

Hope the poor girl survives and makes a full recovery. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Had this happen to me in my old Freelander racer. The vehicle had been on my drive for a while whilst I was sorting out electrical gremlins. Pulled off of the drive and 50 yards on my rear end drops and rear n/s wheel comes sailing past. It was school kicking out time and my road joins a main school route. I am also on a hill so the wheel careered down my road, started bouncing when it hit the small island at the end and ended up around 6 ft in the air before hitting someone's wall . I couldn't believe it ! There were no cars, no kids, nothing at that particular junction - at that time of day it's usually heaving.
Anyway, retrieved the wheel and noticed the wheel nuts were at various points up my road. Fitted it back on and parked on the drive. It was then, to my horror that I noticed when checking the other wheels, that 4 out of 5 nuts on each wheel had been wound to the end of the thread, the fifth being finger tight against the rim.
Now, I'm very particular about using a torque wrench to ensure my nuts are correctly done up and the wheels had not been removed or put back on while on the drive. So my guess is that as I work nights, some scrote has undone the nuts ready to return another day, jack up the car and steal the wheels (Magnesium Oz wheels from an M-Sport Freelander 1 V6 with brand new tyres) possibly having seen the vehicle laid up for a while, thinking it doesn't get used. However, had someone been killed or seriously injured, I'd have no defence in law. They'd have said that I should have checked before pulling off.

I had a 5 ft tall 44inch wide wheel fall off a tractor . luckily on the farm lane. but I had just driven 10 miles on the road. our land is quite narrow so driving with the outer of wheel on the verge 'helped' it fall off. We ended up putting on longer wheel studs with a nut at back of hub to prevent further accidents.
this sort of thing, rear wheel.
