Does your vehicle have 'Stop/Start' ?

Was your battery an AGM ?

Australia 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Fuji White

Hi People... I'm a long time Freel2 forum observer and have got so much from your collective wisdom and have been inspired by your adventures etc. Thanks! Thumbs Up

I'm motivated to write to you all as I've just walked out of the local LR service centre in Sydney annoyed to find out that a replacement battery for the original LR091092 is over AU$800!!! I see that Lightwater installed a Varta F19... Just wondering if all is ok as this is not an AGM battery and LR was adamant that I would need to replace an AGM with another AGM. My Freelander is a 2013 2.2L SD so, obviously, no stop-start. Is there another reason why an AGM battery would be needed? I called up the local Varta wholesale outlet and he said that I would be throwing money away by spending it on the LR battery. What to believe?!! Anyone have any light to shed on this?

You only need AGM if you have start stop.

Land Rover batteries are Exide with an LR logo stuck over the Exide name! I still have my old battery as it is still ok & I use it to test things.

A basic lead acid battery will take more punishment. The one I used is the largest you can fit in the space. It's not difficult just watch your back & fingers. Take negative off first. Put positive on first on new battery. Clock will need moving forward.

PS good to see another Freelander in the correct colour! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Thanks for your quick reply, Lightwater! I'll give the Varta F19 a shot. It's only AU$358 vs AU$830 for the LR091092 which makes the decision a little easier!

Yes, definitely the right colour for this continent!

Thanks again for your help.

I had trouble getting the $10 delivery trying to order it online so ended up ordering over the phone. The battery is 20 kg & they are advertising $10 Sydney metro up 25kg! They delivered it to the Northern Beaches quickly, poor girl who had to carry it!

Info on batteries if anyone needs it https://batteryuniversity.com/

'AGM and other sealed batteries do not like heat and should be installed away from the engine compartment. Manufacturers recommend halting charge if the battery core reaches 49°C' Summer in Australia is not good for batteries! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Not sure if the f19 is AGM!
On tayna website f19 is only £89.97 whereas the f21 is £149.95 both are 800A.

Charging system for AGM battery is different from normal battery. I read on here (long time ago) that if you fit the other type you need to get a dealer to recalibrate the charging circuit.
This is just info from earlier posts. I'm not an expert. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Australia stopped manufacturing car batteries a decade ago.

But we do export about 5 millions of tonnes of raw materials every single day so you guys can add value so we can import all these value added things at great expense!

We exchange about 1000 tonnes of iron ore for a new Discovery Sport, if the exchange rate is in our favour we might even get an HSE! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
