Hi All


Had my 07 FL2 SE a few weeks now and generally happy with it compared with my previous disco 2 TD5 auto it seem a bit on the thirsty side not filled the tank to the top yet but generally fillit to appraise help a tank but seems I keep having to head to the garage to refill

Can anything be done to help increase fuel economy and reduce trips to the pump??

How accurate is the computer? Is the a way to compare actual mpg to what the computer calculates??

Apologies if there is already a thread for this, I have had a mooch in the other sections but couldn't find anything but thats probably me looking with non seeing eyes

any info gladly welcome

Comparing actual to computer mileage is easy. Just fill to the brim, run it for 400 miles or so, refill to the same level, convert litres to gallons and divide the miles done by the number of gallons. My computer runs about 1 or 2 mpg higher than actual. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Try keeping the revs below 1500 for cruising and with a 2,000 max rev limit under acceleration. Run like that for a tankful and see if that improves your mileage. The FL2 has bags of power, but if you use it all the time, the mpg will suffer. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

My Sd4 auto is only very slightly better on fuel than my Td5 manual disco was. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I get a great MPG doing exactly that.  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks guys to be fair generally I don't it that drive it hard anyway. I would say roughly I am getting close to what I was getting with the D2 TD5. Rightly or wrongly going off the lab stats on auto trader compared with the lab stats for the D2 TD5 together with the fact the FL2 is 5 yrs newer vehicle and not as much of an aero dynamic brick as the D2 I thought I would have noticed more MPG's from the FL2? Both Autos btw. Just wandering if this is normal or if my truck may have an issue?

You haven't said what mpg you're getting, that would help.

The 160ps incarnations of the PSA diesels found in early FL2 are not renown for fuel economy. We have a low mileage ( 50k) 2009 GS Auto . These cars were designed when diesel was cheap and would never be a problem On local runs it’s 28, mixed runs covering 20 miles or more might get it in the mid 30’s . My FL2 Auto SD4s have done about 33mpg (measuring tank to tank) average constantly over the 6 years I've had them.
This shows as about 34.5mpg on the computer readout.

This is a fair mixture of town, rural and motorway driving and I use air conditioning at least 50% of the time.
I have noticed that A/C knocks about 1.5mpg off any type of driving.

It is more or less what I expected for a complex, 2 ton, brick. It is quite quick, and extremely comfy though, and worth it. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 79k+ miles) (MY2015)

It is the same with the 177 kW petrol engine, I've had enough long flat straight roads in the outback to test different speeds. It is the turbo that sucks fuel. If you can keep the revs a bit lower. On the above mentioned roads, I get up to speed to get the car to change to 6th & ease the speed back a bit.

A reasonable tail wind will save you 1 litre per 100km. A headwind is the opposite!


Stop looking at fuel consumption, you will pointlessly stress yourself over a few $100 savings a year while driving a luxury car! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

My old TD5 auto got 25mpg on average , whereas my current FL2 SD4 auto does 35mpg - these figures according to their on board computers. Jules

What he said, old D2 mid 20s, '07 FL2 mid 30s.

D4 - don't ask... but the sport mode is a hoot

Average according to the computer is .........................15.3 !! But it is winter and it is an i6. Summer usually around the low 20's but 30+ on a motorway drive using cruise control.

I took my 2011 FL2 from the Midlands to Scarborough and back yesterday, a round trip of about 280 miles. The onboard computer is showing an average return of 42 mpg, which I think is brilliant
