Dorset Owners - Servicing in and around Wimborne?

I have seen a few FL2s now I've got mine but they are still relatively exclusive around Corfe Mullen, Poole, Wimborne etc. Plenty of Range Rovers!

I want to find a good, local Land Rover specialist to do my servicing etc. I'm due a 60K service in about 500 miles.

Can anybody recommend a trusted garage please?

I just phone the LR Main Stealer (Westover) and they want £493 for a 60K service, with a wait of 5-6 weeks for a courtesy car Shocked Laughing

Cheers - Andrew

Holy Thread re-tread!

I've still got the same Freelander 2 too! It's been a great car since the main dealer sorted out the rear diff. bearing 6 years ago.

Anyway I've used this garage before:

Very happy with the work and the mechanics there really know their stuff too.

cheers...

Agree that Westover LR is expensive (Both Salisbury and Christchurch). I use Yeovil LR who still do the 3+ year deal. I have also in the past on older vehicles used www.evansgarage-dorchester.co.uk who I can recommend. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Thanks both.

I'd found AL and wondered what they might be like, so that looks like a real possibility.

I was shocked that a 2/4 service with Westover is £487, with 1/3 £269. The difference - fuel filter and air filter - extra £218 Shocked They are having a giraffe.

That even makes BMW look cheap, and I never thought I'd say that - if you keep your miles down you can go 2 years between services on mine and even then it's not as expensive as that.

Yeovil are only 10% cheaper using the online system, but maybe they will do a better deal over the phone. But they are 45 miles away and Poole is only 10.

All I need is somewhere I can trust to 1) actually do the oil filter change 2) use the correct grade of oil 3) use genuine parts.

Oddly all the things I can do myself! Except we have a 2 year JLR warranty, so we need a VAT registered garage to do the work.

I wasn't convinced even the main dealer changed the oil fliter last time - the previous owner was doing 6000 miles a year. It had done only 2000 since service when we bought it but for peace of mind I did an oil and filter change myself and the filter looked pretty filthy. Not the worst picture I have seen, but for 2000 miles there should not have been sludge in the threads. (I expect black, they always are). Annoyingly I forgot to mark the filter I put in as I just might have been tempted to check it, or change at 6 months.

Once the warranty is done I will do it myself. I have the time and it's in some ways easier than other cars - I can drive it onto concrete blocks rather than jack it up, albeit there is the fag of getting the plate off and the even more annoying fag of the filter position, but with an angled ratchet spanner its doable, with time and patience and plenty of pre-application of u-tube!

Yeovil LR have the 3+ scheme on their website. You have to ask for it.

I have a similar thread going in the Maintenance and Modifications section of the forum. To be precise, how to avoid the eye watering price of £550 requested for a 4 year "B" service at the Portsmouth main dealer.

Looking for a reputable independent in the Portsmouth/Southampton area. Seems you have this in Dorset, but bit of a hike for me! 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto

I know DIY servicing is not for everyone, but all the parts (JLR and Castrol or Shell C1) are under £100. The special spanner is about a tenner. The important safety service checks are carried out on an MOT and the non-essential locks and hinges lubes etc you can do yourself.

If you intend to sell a car of course, a FSH is needed (we tend to keep our cars until they are worth nothing, but I need to keep the JLR warranty terms on this one so need a dealer for the next 2).

HOWEVER, if you print a list of all the serving items and check that off each time, that is a FSH, just not a dealer history, as long as you are clear to anyone. And if you are saving £250+ a year, not long before you will still be in profit without that dealer stamp (keep the receipts for the genuine parts instead)

I used to do my own servicing on my wife's cars (I had a company motor) and used to keep receipts for everything and put all details on a spreadsheet. When she change her last car the dealer was quite impressed by the wadge of stuff that I handed over. However for a Freelander under extended warranty I don't want the warranty compromised in any way so insist on LR servicing. One of the reasons I have stuck with LR is that they have never queried warranty work or charged for looking at a problem.
One of my sons has a VW Toureg under extended warranty and he had to pay £75 for the dealer to investigate an issue (refunded when warranty work was approved) and then the first £250 of any claim. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
