Tyre Feathering - Tracking OK

We have serious feathering on the outside edge of the NS Front tyre. 6000 miles, already down to different colour of rubber. Few more K and we will be down to the carcass on the shoulder. With 5-6 mm across 95% of the rest of the tyre.

Car was used from main dealer - we changed 19" wheels and tyres to these which are 18". Previous tyres showed no similar issue. Tracking has been checked (by indy, Hunter laser tracking - all good)

FL2 2014.

Any ideas?

measure the distance between the front and rear wheels, its possible the ns wheelbase is longer causing the car to steer to the right, the steering would then be turned to the left to compensate, therefore the outside edge of the osf tyre will wear first.this is assuming the castor and camber are ok,which are not adjustable I believe

Castor and camber are all in spec. How/why would the wheelbase be longer?

when working at a main dealer, Chrysler, years ago,the cause would be bushes, poor build quality, different sizes, now days it doesn't occur,in your case it could be the vehicle has been 'kerbered'we came across an astra van ,for example that had backed into a very low wall, bending the wheel on the rear, and of course splitting the tyre.when we measured the wheeknbase it was 2 cm shorter, on right hand side, which caused the van to steer to the right, therefore steering had to be turned very slightly to the left to compensate, which in time caused outside edge wear to the osf tyre and the left hand front on the inside.my previous f2 would wear the nsf outer edge but after checking,i put that down to the way my wife turns in to our track every day at a great rate of speed, but the wear was minimal.hope that helps

I will check it out at the w/e.

It's my wife's car primarily. I do find it easy to carry too much speed into a corner and then scrub it around a bit, so perhaps that is what is happening with her too.

It's quite bad - if we don't rotate out (and fix) it will be corded before long.
