As I understand it - more amps = faster charging. However - if you plan to regularly leave your car unstarted for a week or two at a time, you need a trickle-charger and keep it connected all the time the car is parked. Along with most Jaguar people, I use a C-Tek MXS 5.0 for my XK. (XKs are notorious for throwing wobblies if their battery is not in top condition). The MSX 5.0 is 'intelligent' and will automatically charge your battery at different rates depending on conditions. Since using a C-Tek, I have had no battery issues at all. Currently enjoying:

PS - Have just noticed that the picture in your link - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CTEK-MXS-5-0-12V...Sw8AhaTicb is of an MXS 7.0. I believe the description is correct for an MSX 5.0...

Hi after taking a lot of advice off here I went with the CTek MXS 5 and Touch Wood my problems seem to have sorted themselves out with leaving the eyelets on battery and keeping CTek on over weekend or days when I not using car.

Iโm using an Optimate . Mainly because I have a couple left over from my motorbike days . Iโve purchased the 12v socket plug so my wife can easily pop the FL2 on charge via the socket in the boot which if remember correctly is live 24/7 . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Hi Martyn are you saying there that you can go from wall socket to boot socket and it will trickle charge so as not having to leave bonnet open please? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

So the little street darlings get in your car instead of just the engine bay. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

No, just would be easier for me when parked on my land to run cable to boot and if any 'street darlings' are out here, they must be lost as I have no streets Bob or come to think of it no other houses full stop just some which might get in back If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Thereโs plenty of space under the bonnet to close it with a charger in situ. Run the cable out where the battery box cover would be when not charging. |

Yes Jules ! I believe that the 12v socket in the boot is not switched , so it is permanently live . So connecting a smart charger/ battery conditioner through that would do the job . My wife uses the Fl2 so itโs the easiest , cleanest , quickest , way for her to make the connections . All the smart charger companies sell a 12v male plug adaptor lead. Iโve also bought a โ remove before flight โ key ring tag , this will live on the charger lead when not in use . When she plugs it in she will put the tag on her car key . This will remind her to remove the charger plug before she drives off Iโm a bit paranoid about vehicles driving away while they are still connected up to static objects due to sorting out the consequences when i was a working person 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership 2016 Subaru Outback SE 2.0 diesel SE Premium Lineartronic Sold 2024 after 8 years and 80k miles . I have the Ctek MXS 10a, quickly tops up the car and trickle charges the caravan leisure battery. I charge mine via the towing 13 pin socket on the car.
