Rattle/ knocking from under bonnet

Hello,
I wonder if anyone would be king enough to give me some pointers on this please? I've just had some work done on my 07 FL2 at a local garage. The problem was a clunking noise that occurred when going over bumps. It turned out to be two rubber bushes in the rear suspension that needed renewing. In addition, they found that the front offside coil spring was broken and had been for some time, so they changed this as well.
When I picked the car up, the suspension knock from the rear has gone but I've now got a knocking/ rattling sound that sounds like its coming from somewhere high up under the bonnet on the driver's side. I took at back and demonstrated the noise to the mechanics. They searched for forgotten tools/ sockets and checked that all bolts that had been undone were tight, which they were. We are all at a bit of a loss, but is it possible that the shock absorber could be making this noise? Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any help or guidance appreciated as its going back in on Tuesday! Thanks, Colin.

Hello, no I don't think so. Just changed the spring as far as I'm aware. I'll ask them, but do you think this could be the cause? It's just a funny random rattle - quite hard to describe. Colin.

It could be that what’s collapsed or it could be the drop link what’s failed as they’ve had that undone.

my sons garage had this problem,i don't know all the details, but the conclusion was that a spacing washer got thrown out with the old mounting,so although all was tight, there was a knocking noise, when it got stripped down it was obvious that something was missing.

Thanks Ginna104 and Sid for your suggestions. It goes back in tomorrow and will hopefully get sorted out this time. I'll mention these possibilities to the mechanics. Everything else is fully tightened up, so I'm sure it can only be something at the top of the spring column. I'll have a look and see if the Haynes manual has a decent diagram of the assembly tonight to help me understand it, but its not overly helpful in other respects so I'm not holding my breath! I'll report back in due course. Thanks once again for your help. Colin.

Problem solved by the sound of it! Garage dismantled the o/s front spring assembly again and went through everything. They then removed the wheel arch liner and found a clip holding part of the ABS equipment/ wiring floating loose. They reckon this was the problem and the cause of the noise and it does seem to have stopped it now.
Had it back in this week again for the N/S front spring to be changed, because according to the book they should be done in axle pairs. Total cost of two springs, two new linkages (?) and labour was £462.
Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. Colin.
