I have noticed this when driving during the day in rain with the headlights on. It appears to be related to the external ambient light. If it is light outside the panel is bright but if it gets darker, say under trees, the panel dims. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

Mine did this yesterday, never seen it do it before. Anyone know of why it does it? (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

They vary according to brightness of the cabin. This caught me out when I first got my car but did work out what was going on. I think I found the light sensor but can't remember now.

Noticed this too, can really say its totally unnecessary, I can put up with my dash illumination being bright all the time. If I think its too bright I can turn them down manually Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Mine does this too but I just thought it was due to the light changes in the car ie; like going under bridges ect. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

the main 'sunlight' sensor is the small dome at the front centre of the dashboard by the screen vents, this detects the strength of light coming in from outside, the pin hole on the dash (as per the link above) is another sensor for interior light strength.
