This is all very fascinating stuff, but in reality, who really, apart from the Japanese trains, lives their life to the fractions of a second?

New addition to the family. I bought this G-Shock as a work watch. Tough, shockproof, waterproof, solar powered and it won’t matter too much if it gets scratched or bashed. So now I have a Tag, a Speedmaster and this and the wife says “Why have you got three watches exactly the same?” Women!

Forget the watch Doc - new job, more money, cash in your pocket then go get yourself back into a proper motor |

Of the two, I prefer the metal bracelet. The nylon one looks like a nato one - threaded under the watch and over the spring bars. You can buy NATO’s quite cheaply but you'd be surprised at the cost of original straps and bracelets. Most people would advise to buy the watch with the bracelet and buy any other straps separately. I'd think hard before paying full retail price for a new watch (initial depreciation is shocking) and although quartz is cheaper and more accurate, I personally prefer a mechanical movement. More traditional in my mind. If I was buying another watch, any watch, I’d consider secondhand or grey market. I bought my Omega from watchfinder.co.uk and it was a grey import, three months old, never worn with box, tags and papers and still with 3 years 9 months international guarantee remaining. It came from a boutique in Italy and still had the price tag on it - €7,400. I saved £1,250 on the UK retail price. I’m currently looking for a nice thin, hand wound mechanical dress watch and I’ll probably buy pre-owned as they’re much better value.
