Snow chains

Hello, we are off to Tignes in the French Alps next week and contemplating taking the Freelander.

We know we must have snow chains due to the amount of snow they have over there. However, when we checked the handbook for advice of which snow chains, they only mention tyre size 16 - 18.

Any advice? Thank you

If the roads are open my best guess is you wont need chains in a FL2 with a good set of tyres. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

So after trawling through the other 'snow chain' posts I can't find any discussions regarding my wheel size; 235/55/19

Some posts are saying Konig XG-12 Pro 247 BUT when I put make and model into a stockist website it comes up with Pro 250.

So do I go with those OR not bother given it's a Land Rover, the ski resorts advice is 'must have snow chains'

My other option is to see if I can find any to rent.......... Wink

Down under you would think we were on different planets. No snow chains required in NSW for 4WD, but in Victoria they are required! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Jacque, Your wheel /tyre size shouldn’t make any difference compared with my 235 65 R17. The width is the same at 235 and the rolling circumference will be the same within a few mm.

It’s a while since I bought mine, but I found that I could buy cheap ones for less than the cost of renting

Thanks for this info mate, been trawling all over to find someone on a forum getting chains with the same sized tyres as me.

Out of curiosity how's the clearance with them on? I've had a look at the manual which says chains are a no go for 17" wheels but there seems to be pretty decent clearance behind the tyres. The Konig site indicates 12mm chains are the go, but 16mm ones are much cheaper to find and buy so if they fit alright I would probably grab them for myself this coming winter here. (not that we get any snow in cities Laughing , just for heading up to ski slopes)
