No we don't wave... It's a Defender thing, not a Freelander thing

I waved at someone once and she waved back - well I think it was a wave.

It's a pity it isn't a Freely thing... It's rare to see a Freely, so it's nice when one pulls up at the traffic lights.

Used to acknowledge other Impreza drivers when I owned mine, but then I bought a Forester and such acknowledgement didn't exist, even though it was a rarer beast.

I still mourn the fact that AA men are now in vans not motorbike and sidecar combos. Can still remember the leather gauntlet salute if you proudly positioned your chrome AA badge on the front of your car. Ah yes they were the days before elf and safety intervened. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

They are very common in where I live in Hampshire, you would be waving all the time. The only cars I have had that owners acknowledged each other, normally with a light flash, were the Alfasud I had in the early 80s and my more recent Lotus Elise, used to quite like it to be honest.

We used to wave when I had my MGBGT, also to other older MGs. Also experienced it with Morris Minors and Motor caravans (campervans). Especially VW campers, older the better.

Does anyone else get confused by the similarity from a frontal distant view between the Fl2 and Disco Sport. Dave

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

I think you will mostly get ignored or get puzzled looks while these are still mainstream everyday family cars and the vast majority of drivers are not Landrover or indeed Freelander enthusiasts.
As the ownership demographic changes, when the original owners have sold on and moved to their latest car the remainder will be either using a second hand car OR, enthusiasts who realize what they like and are friendly towards those of a similar disposition.
I noticed the same when I bought my Disco 2, one of the last of line models which at that time was 3 years old. Nobody acknowledged or replied to a wave, unless the recipient was driving an obviously modified or personalized car. As it aged and became less common other users were more likely to spare wave and a thought for a fellow sufferer.

Nailed it. I am sure, when they first came out, Toyota Pious owners would wave at each other. Certainly in London there is a great deal of waving between Pious pilots now but none of it is friendly.

Defenders only get waves in suburbia. In the country they are a tool to do a job. Almost everyone has one as they are what they are, have been around forever and seldom die.

While I wouldn't instigate a wave, as Terry is such a rare colour, I do stand by to reciprocate if I see another orange one.

T4, your 'orange' vehicle is actually coded as Tambora Flame paint Code: LRC 810

It was the launch colour of the Freelander 2.

Also the 'Clay Model' at Gaydon was sprayed the same colour ........ but interestingly was fitted with NAS Head Lamps. ??? why ???
