I recently bought myself a FL2 and thoroughly enjoying my ride to work.

Do Freelander owners wave to each other? When we are in my other half's Defender, lots of waving takes place.

Just thought I'd ask the question, seen no waving yet.........

Hi, I don't even bother waving to other Freelander drivers, I just sold my Defender and waved/got waved at all the time. My theory is that Defender drivers are more down-to-earth non-poseur types. I also own a Peugeot RCZ a bit rare, very distinguishable from other cars, always get a wave from other RCZ drivers. Look a bit too much like Audi TT.........but nowhere near as common as the TT!!! Dave PS I ain't a poseur!!

Nailed it there I think. Defender owners are generally enthusiasts to one degree or another, whereas the Freelander is a versatile everyday vehicle that is for many just a practical purchase. There are enthusiasts, but we are swamped.

I think you will mostly get ignored or get puzzled looks while these are still mainstream everyday family cars and the vast majority of drivers are not Landrover or indeed Freelander enthusiasts.
As the ownership demographic changes, when the original owners have sold on and moved to their latest car the remainder will be either using a second hand car OR, enthusiasts who realize what they like and are friendly towards those of a similar disposition.
I noticed the same when I bought my Disco 2, one of the last of line models which at that time was 3 years old. Nobody acknowledged or replied to a wave, unless the recipient was driving an obviously modified or personalized car. As it aged and became less common other users were more likely to spare wave and a thought for a fellow sufferer.

Now, when Im out in my classic Mini its a different story, people are always pleased to see a nice classic on the road and especially a Mini which holds happy motoring memories for so many. Smiles, waves, being approached when parked for more than 2 minutes, even people flagging you down in order to have a chat or reminisce are common events.
Keep waving, who knows, when your Freelander is over 50 years old every other owner will return your wave!  Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I used to live in a very small island community where everyone waved, all the time. If you didn’t wave you were talked about... First trip back to UK, was a nightmare, just too many cars to wave at! I still wave most of the time on single track roads around here and get grumpy at all the ignorant folks who don’t wave back! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

However, when I drove my Series Landy's , I only got waved at by Series owners - Defender and Rangie drivers never waved back. Then I moved to Defenders - only Defender owners waved. Disco was the same. Then I bought my first Freelander and NOBODY waved !! I even got the cold shoulder from other Freelander owners at Billing one year. Isolated by the Land Rover crowd because I owned a highly modified rally Freelander, and even though it was totally non spec it still wasn't a "real Land Rover", and shunned by the Freelander guys because "we don't modify our Freelanders". (glad to see, at Kelmarsh Hall LR Show last year, stacks of modified F1' on display - just a few years too late guys)

On a more related note:
I was once waved at by someone in a modified Disco II while in my F2. Missed it totally. Missus saw the guy wave and cussed me for not waving back. She quite rightly said "you'd moan blind if that had been the other way round". I can only imagine the sort of thing that Disco II owner was saying to himself about the ignorant b45t4rd in his Freelander 2. However, in my defence, I'm just not expecting anyone waving any more.

Recently waved by a couple of Discos in remote areas of South Australia simply because pretty much everything out there is a Toyota Landcruiser on 16 inch rims (proper wheels)!

I think they were happy to see any product from LR which is more than a day's drive from a café!

Range Rovers do not wave as we all know our place! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I got the Campervan wave bug so wave to all Freelanders, the better half laughs when they don't wave back but finally up in Aberearon over weekend and an older gent beat me to it, I think he was more when I waved back

Too dangerous for me, used to wave though the last time was in the D2TD5, waved at this gorgeous red D2 and the young blonde lady driver waves enthusiastically back all smiles as well
