United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

I had the double double beep when unlocking, and at the same time car stopped going into Eco mode. Took this as a sign the main battery was on its way out, it was into its fifth year. Eco only comes on if you have a well charged battery. Bought a new Varta same as o/e, did this because I didn't want to have to do ANY reprogramming. Changeover was easy enough, taking out the air filter box allows you to slide the battery in rather than lift it straight up at arm's length, it's a heavy brute!.

Didn't lose any info other than time, one-shot window closing and trip meter records, all easily sorted. The double double beeps stopped on unlocking, but the Eco mode didn't cut in for a whole day, either because the new battery wasn't at full charge when fitted, or the ECU or BMS was resetting itself to the brand new battery, you decide!.

I don't mind Eco mode, but having had it, I would avoid having it again. No-one told me replacing my battery would cost twice as much as the standard car, and I do very little stop start driving, so it's probably not making much difference to the environment.

Hope this is of some help to fellow double double beep sufferers.

Ah what it is to have the benefit of hindsight or even to be a clairvoyant, sadly neither applied to me on this occasion.
If you provide this service Yorky, would you be kind enough to let me know three months in advance of me needing my next new battery?.
Thanks.😁

No one told me, no little voices honest and car was behaving but I changed the battery before hitting minus 10 and minus more money once in Winter. (also knew car as to stand a month in airport car park recently).

Totally agree about the beep but I just wondered why it would change on it's own.

I expect one of your neighbours has snipped the wires to the beeper. Whistle MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

I think lots of cars do strange things when they are working on a lower than normal voltage, BMW and Porsche, for example, to quote the experience of just one of my friends. Anyhow, it's something to check when these odd things do occur.

You dont really need the beep, its anti social anyway, especially at night, as long as the lights flash and you hear the clunk what more do you need?

Not exactly anti social, its a very muted beep at best and can barely hear it if you park in the vicinity of other moving traffic. Dont think its gonna wake the neighbours up. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Another fix is to carry out a ‘Hard Reset’ ( remove both the negative and positive battery cables from the battery and join/bridge the cables togeather without any cable touching the battery for 40mins!) that will rest all the ECU’s in the vehicle!

If your not confident in doing this then ask the dealer to carry out a ‘SDD vehicle Reset’! That will reset the ‘Can Bus’ network! That should sort out the beeping sound when unlocking with the key fob. Hope this helps 😉
