old joke Apparently the guy who invented the Hoki Coki died recently and they had trouble getting the body into the coffin. They put the left leg in, the right leg in, in out in out and shook it all about....... 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

My freelander is my first automatic (driven several on holiday in North America) . I wanted a stick shift but I also wanted the top of the range car (automatic only) so I too the top of the range . I would never go back to a manual.. there’s a reason why FFRR and other luxury cars only do automatics , it’s more civilised way to drive.

I would have thought that FFRR etc had auto boxes was to protect the transmission - can you imagine the damage you could do being ham fisted off road with a 5.2 litre petrol engine up front! Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Well I don't think it's that because F1 gearboxes are basically a manual but the changes are handled by servos and quick shifters. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

Lower price for the manual at initial purchase and about 5 mpg better economy compared to the early auto box so I am very happy with my choice of cogs. Relaxed motorway work in 6th, smooth changes; could do with a lower first gear when off road but otherwise its a great manual box.The auto must be wonderful for off road, heavy hauling or towing as my manual has been doing same for 85,000 miles on original oily bits. |
