Yes - with the gear selector in D push the lever to the left to S and then push forward or back to change gear. It will only let you select a gear that is appropriate for the speed at the time. |

In my experience it's more of a "suggestion" rather than "command" shift. It won't shift unless it agrees with your wishes and if you slow down it changes into an appropriate gear regardless. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Only so far as it won't let you blow up anything by changing into 1st at 90mph. I prefer it in hilly country because it allows you to hold it in a certain gear. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

There is too much of a delay when shifting with command shift so it is useless feature but i am sure someone here found a use for it |

When I had a Freelander 1 auto it was programmed to stay in lower gears when cold which was a bit annoying as I would be driving in 1st or 2nd for the first few miles. I regularly used command shift to overcome that but the FL2 auto doesn't seem to have that problem so I rarely use it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Command Shift will change down when in too higher gear for the road speed/load, it won't change up and will stay in that gear upto the rev limiter, mine is instantaneous on actuating the shift and couldn't be beaten with a manual box, you would be lucky to have got to the neutral in the gate when Command Shift would have already engaged and you didn't even need to lift. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

We have two Autos . One the Freelander with the old Aisin Warner 6 speed command shift , and the Subaru with excellent Lineartronic CVT which will also allow 7 programmed fixed gears using flappy paddles . Neither system has either been a problem from a cold start . As for day to day use , I’ve driven both in atrocious conditions in the last fortnight . Around here with some particularly steep hills I can’t see what real benefit a manual vehicle would have had in tackling snowy inclines at crawling speed . There is personal preference of course and also the old prejudice nonsense about “drivers cars” , which of course should be dispelled by a trip to to your nearest Ferrari dealer . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

My SD4 Auto works fine just as it is supposed to in all settings and in all temperatures. If anyone's auto doesn't then I suggest you get it checked.

My SD4 auto is fine - command shift is great for slow speed stuff in the rough when steady control is needed (and HDC is great here too). using usually 1 & 2. Otherwise not much use. FL2 Ex D2, D3, RRS, etc. now all gone. |
