climate control smell

Hi all,
For 2-3 days now, when i turn on the heating (climate control), there is a very strong smell of something like diesel or burnt material flowing in the cabin.
Do you have any ideas of what might be the cause of this intolerable smell?
thanks Crying or Very sad

Have same problem as the cold season arrived.
I think it is the "auxiliary heater" which I dindn't know I had until I 've seen smoke coming from behind the front wheel of the car.

No, as far as I know, no new heater has been installed. How can I say if I have the new or the old heater? The car was produced in December 2007, if that helps you to say which type of heater is installed.
Yes, the it smells like burnt plastic.
thanks

I'm not sure it is the same problem. I notice the smell only on the first cold start and then after I drive it is gone.(even if the car is just standing with the engine on), I'll keep an eye on the car...
