tyres

Hi can tyres make it sound like theres a bearing going as i have like a drumming noise that sounds like is coming from front nearside wheel you can hear it more the slower you go it actully makes a noise like theres a flat spot on the tyre. Then at aroung 53mph its like a whining noise anything above this it seems to disapear. Its going into main dealers tomorrow to see if they can locate the the noise.I,m not one of these that can turn the radio up and forget about it i need to find it and sort it.TIA

would it be the tyre and not the wheel as i would like to change the tyres been thinking of changing them WHILE but i have held back because of this.TBH i,m getting paranoid with the noise but i can,t shut it off.

The noise on ours was caused by the General Grabbers , I swapped them front to back and the noise continued. Wether one was out of shape I don't know . Eventually tried the wheels/tyres off my Fl2 and it was resolved . Good luck and I hope you get sorted .

This is what i,m thinking that there could be a tyre out of shape or a flat spot on the tyre.i,ll see what the stealers say today and take it from there. Thanks all

Used to be the way to do it way back when. Problems occur when so many tyres these days are directional. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Easy to answer as many tyres now are directional. I think its also a LR recommendation but can't be arsed to go find that. I switch mine on same side about every 10K as even wear makes the Haldex etc a happy bunny. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Why is that Bob ? It should not make an Ha’porth of difference to test a tyre . The Fl2 does not to the best of my knowledge use directional tyres . If it did there would not be the option of a full sized spare wheel . Following your logic I could never use the spare . The only issues that mismatched tyres could theoretically cause on a part time 4x4 are if they are on the same axle you have one tread with a much greater depth than the other tyre and you ran it for some length of time . Again as a spare tyre is available and can be used you won’t cause any damage swapping the tyre as I suggested to see if the noise moves . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Uni-directional tyres are fitted to my beast but my emergency only spare tyre is not uni-directional. Its about the only soloution to deal with the uni issue or use one time gunk.

From the service sheet

8. Remove road wheels
9. Inspect brake pads for wear, calipers for leaks and disks for condition
10. Replace Brake Fluid (Every 3 years)*
11. Drain fuel sedimentor (Diesel)
12. Renew fuel filter element (Diesel)
13. Refit road wheels to opposite sides of the same axle ( Use anti-sieze
compound on spigot bore ) - Not vehicles fitted with uni-directional tyres

Scorpion zero are very noisy. I replaced them with scorpion verde and they were quieter, when one of the verde had large puncture on the tyre wall i changed the whole set to Michelin. Cross climate and they are much quieter still.
