Up-graded shocks for :censored: roads

Are there any shocks that perform better than the standard? Any experiences?

Roltek,

I have only used the stock Land Rover shocks.

However it is unlikely that you are going to find a shock that is less stiff, the stock shocks are not very stiff.

Of all of my cars (5 in total right now) my Land Rover has the softest ride and one of my cars is a Buick (a brand not know for stiff shocks).

Why am I telling you this?

I don't think that you want softer shocks.

If I was in your position I would get tires with more sidewall.

Upgrade by getting smaller wheels and taller tires

If you have 18" then go to 17" or 16"

Note: you will need to confirm what brakes you have and that the smaller wheel will fit.

The first place to check is the spare tire it may be a smaller size and if it is then dropping to that size wheel shouldn't be a problem.

If you would consider getting smaller wheels post here and hopefully someone can help determine what size is the smallest that you can move to.

Another option is to switch the springs to a softer spring.

There is a post about increasing the ride height, I don't know if the springs in that post are less stiff than stock.

Post more information about your Freelander and then we can provide more detailed reccomendations

Year?
Model?
Engine?
Miles?
Wheel Size (inches)?
Tires?
Driving conditions (Rain? Snow? Ice? Off Road?)

Good Luck

Paul

Has the OP edited his post or are you making assumptions?

Anyway.......

I'm still on OE shocks and am happy with their performance along dirt roads. I have seen KYB (Kayaba) shocks for sale though. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KYB-FRONT-AXLE-...SwryNZla5m

This might be useful. https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/shock-...-2-sd4-4x4 MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Blacktiger,

You are right, I am making assumptions.

The original poster didn't provide enough detail.

But the post did say that there roads are bad and that they would like something that works better.

The information that was provided was very thin.

I wrote what I did to get the original poster to think of the suspension, wheels and tires as a system.

And the system can be modified but I find it unlikely that new/different shocks would provide the difference that the original poster is looking for.

I guess its all pointless because there has been no reply.

Thanks

Paul

I suppose his mileage is very low and he doesn't go much above 40 mph. Gozo ain't that big and I suspect 6th gear is unused unless he regularly catches a ferry to Malta. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.
