Binoculars

Booked a week on Lindisfarne and think it would be useful if we had a set/pair (?) of binoculars with us. Any recommendations? Budget of perhaps £100 max as I'm not sure we'll become full-time twitchers

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Firenze Red

I recently was with a twitcher who runs bird watching trips for the likes of the RSPB both in UK and abroad. Liked the look of his bins until he told me the replacement cost would be 2K.

Good luck with your quest. Shocked FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Not quite what you are looking for, but at this sort of price you have nothing to loose. I have 3!

I have no connection to the seller by the way, Ebay is full of similar ones at this sort of price. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

Sidthecat, go to Jessops web site, type in BUSHNELL binocular, big sale on and if you hang about for a bit another 15% voucher will pop up.
Talking serious sale here but be quick up and over £100 off.

Best of luck. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

For a £100 have a look at the brands like Viking or Bushell , they have entry level models that should fit with your budget . The next thing is to decide what general type . For good all round use 8x42 or 44 gives a good balance of size ,magnification , light gathering and field of view .

The deal Jules has found looks very good . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I've had some Minolta 8x40 for about 15 years now. Superb optics as you'd expect from Minolta. No idea if they're still available though. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

A lot of people use Hawkes. They do some in your price range https://uk.hawkeoptics.com/binoculars.html . Always a lot of twitchers in the layby at Waren Mill just south of the Island. On the Island, if you walk out to the castle then along the coast towards the white pyramid you'll find a dedicated hide by the lake.
Usually a lot of swallows, martins etc by the new shelter on the road to the castle.
Best way to see birds though is to drive down to Seahouses and take a boat out to the Farnes. Various trips available to different islands. Guillemots, puffins, eider, various gulls, kittiwakes, terns, pretty much guaranteed.
And seals of course. You can often hear the seals singing on the landward side of the island - very eerie.
Enjoy your visit! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months

FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Might be worth looking at this www.birdwatching.com/optics/education/light-to-the-eye.html which points out that as you get older then there is less benefit from certain sized (optically) binoculars.

PS as I am partially blind in one eye, if any other forum member wants to go halves on a pair of binoculars I am up for it. Laughing Laughing 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

You need a monocular. I bought one in a supermarket in Spain. Brilliant for £45 and easy to carry around. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Yes but how do you know if it's a left or right eyed monocular? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
