2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Lago Grey

Jammed tailgate

Hi. The tailgate on my 2009 Freelander 2 is jammed - it has a luggage strap wedged in it.

I’ve tried releasing the lock by presssing the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. The lock clicks, but is still ‘wedged’shut. Any ideas on how to freeit?

Cut the strap and pull ?

Are you sure the lock micro switch has not failed as they can do, using the key they wont open but do so on the dash lock release FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I think the switch is wirk8ng because when I use the dash release I can hear the lock click.

I think I’ll have to try brute force and pulling the strap.

My next door neighbour had exactly the same problem. It on a Freelander, but the lock mechanism is basically the same.

Only way we could fix it was to keep working on the strap until we could pull it out

I solved this on mine thanks to another forum member. May also work for you:
Climb inside the boot and push hard on the base of the tailgate. It's jammed, not locked, so should open with a bit of force. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Cheers. I’ll try that in the morning.

If that fails I’ll gave to try and work on the strap to get it loose.

I had the exact problem once with a bag strap stuck in. Like past master says jump in the back take your shoes off and give it a gentle push whilst slowly building the pressure.

From now on you will always check the boot is clear haha

try a pump up inflatable air bag, available from plumbers, merchants etc.

wdege it in the crack and pump it up with the attached air bulb

its a mini version of what the fire brigade use. cost less than a tenner.

look on the bright side ......

you could have a full height dog guard - getting in he back won't be so easy
and locking the car will be impossible - boot not shut = no locking Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Good tip, but it worked ok with a bit of pressure with my feet.

This is something which has been concerning me for a while. I do have a full-height dog guard, and a dog to go behind it. What would happen in the event of a power failure following an accident, fire, etc? How would one get the dog out quickly and safely?

Given a bit of time I'm sure the guard could be removed from inside the car, but it would take time. Some kind of emergency quick release would be good - or perhaps just a larger fold-down section which a larger dog could get through (and openable from inside the car).

Worried me too. I have my whole kitchen in the back, should the tailgate jam ........

.............. how would I get to that emergency tin of baked beans ???
