Agree with all above, don't need to remove battery to charge it. As for removing, not difficult just heavy . Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Is the CTEK 5 one to go for as it seems spoken about several times , they have a 7 and 10 obviously more money but can't see what more you get for your buck ? Also when you say "permanent socket in the boot" what are you actually referring to ? Just had AA out to start car, had a 6-month old battery(which was fitted by them previously) totally dead admittedly probably had a period of 3 - weeks when I hadn't driven car but was gutted that battery was totally dead. AA man said there may be some 'software update' my car had missed , anyway of me being able to check this myself or is it only possible thru / pay dealer to check ? Thank you. |

I put in a new battery before I went on holiday. Was in some remote places in the Flinders Ranges South Australia, no mobile access & did not see any cars or people while we were in the remote areas. Did not want to get stuck before the temperature went back to 50°C!

I recently got a CTEK 7 - the difference between it and the 5 is simply the maximum size of battery it will handle. The 5 would have been sufficient but the difference in price was quite small, so I erred on the safe side. The CTEK has a regeneration mode and it has worked well on two older batteries that I have - wish I had known that before going for a new battery for the FL2. With regard to software update - since my 8 year old FL2 had literally not been to a dealer since it was first sold, I asked at our local one whether it was worth getting it checked for any software updates. The response I got was that software is fixed at manufacture and never updated... (They also denied that the CCF files could be edited, so I bought a tool and did that myself). You may find that your local dealer is more enlightened but this visit to the local guys confirmed my suspicions on why my FL2 had avoided going back to them for Servicing! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto Previously: 2010 MY FL2 TD4e GS - Now gone at 199,500 miles, about 135,000 of them mine. ‘93 Defender 110 200TDi CSW ‘87 Defender 90 4 cyl Petrol ‘83 110 CSW V8 - best ever! Ori, just a thought, but are you sure that the AA sold you the correct battery? Putting a standard battery in a system designed for charging a GSM battery will apparently knacker the battery pretty quickly. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto
