A the weekend travelling home in the dark on the motorway, my radio and satnav screen blipped off and on, along with the sound, but i could swear that the main driving lights also did the same

My 2010MY Auto used to dim the headlights when it changed gear sometimes, no such dimming with my 2013 Auto.

might be a one off, but have had a radio sound blip today, obviously not able to tell if lights went out

Just a thought but if the lights dim when you change gear I would be checking the battery voltage when the engine is at different speeds. As the revs increase it should rise rapidly with the revs to level out at about 14.5v. If the lights dim as the revs drop it might point to a voltage regulator in the alternator or possibly the battery starting to go. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
