I've just had 4 new tyres fitted. I had a basic wheel alignment check but is it worth having an additional 3D check as well? I've read the reviews and marketing material but don't know enough about the technical detail to make a judgement call on whether it is worth the extra outlay. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I don't know if this helps, but I had all 4 tyres changed a couple of years ago, and the shop that did it (Kwikfit) aligned the front wheels only. About a year later I took it to have the 4-wheel alignment done (at a different Kiwkfit), and it showed that both the fronts and the rears were out of alignment. They told me that you have to align the rears first, before doing the fronts, as changes to the rears affect the fronts. Bizarre but true.

More bizarrely, the first time I took it in they said they couldn't adjust the rears because the adjuster nuts were seized and they were afraid of snapping them off. Complete tosh. I took the car home, sprayed nuts with WD40, loosened and re-tightened them without any difficulty, and took the car back the next day and gave them a piece of my mind.

Anyway, the car felt a lot better after that, and I'm a happy customer. You can get it done a lot cheaper than Kwikfit, of course, if you shop around.

I had 4 new tyres fitted a few months ago and had full 4 wheel laser alignment done. It might be false economy but the figures on the print out show it was out before and its now better, so something must be better!

I don't know what you have to pay for 4 wheel laser alignment in UK but over here in Belgium I pay 55€ which I feel is a reasonable price.

55 euros is surprisingly cheap. In france, expect to pay 100 to 120 euros in a Kwikfit type of garage (Norauto, etc) Pre-Production "000" Td4 FL2 in Santorini Black on Jet Black and Blue...

What adjustment can you do on the rear suspension .is it just the shocker mounting bolts are the holes
elongated ?.

According to manual

There is an eccentric on the head of the bolt to set the rear Toe

Its the rear most lower link and its adjusted at the end of the link near the differential.

Hopefully what I wrote makes sense


This is very good to know.

When I take my car in for alignment I will be sure to verify that the bolt is free to move before hand.
